XF exhaust vibration

Long, but bear with me. I took my 2016 XF 2.0D in for a service. After I got it back I noticed a rattling noise when idling that disappeared when increasing the revs a touch.  The dealership identified a faulty  exhaust damper, but had to order the part.  I waited a week before calling the dealership.  The person dealing with me was unavailable but would be asked to give me a call back.  I heard nothing.  A week or so later I called again.  Again he was not available, but managed to confirm the part was now in stock.  I was told I would get a call back but again I heard nothing.  Eventually I drove to the dealership and the receptionist recognised me by my name, apologised  and found another agent to book the car in.  When the work was done I drove home.  Later as I was taking the car out  my daughter said there was still a noise coming from the exhaust.  This noise was different, a higher frequency, and not readily audible from inside the car.  I took the car back to the dealership, expecting to hear that some nut had come loose when fitting the damper.  Not a bit of it.  The noise, I was told, seemed to be coming from inside the back box, maybe something  had come loose inside.  Solution?  New back box, £1100!  Cause?  Maybe the vibrating exhaust had loosened something.  In other words, all the time no one informed me that the replacement damper had come in may have caused some (hypothesised) damage inside the back box.  We’ll, no, they were not going to concede that.  Does anyone have any advice? Or similar experience?  They would not offer any goodwill discount other than the £98 cost of replacing the damper.  I tried using an independent garage but they said it was virtually impossible to source Jaguar parts outside the main dealership.  Thanks for reading this far.

Hi Michael,

Not great service from the dealership.

Personally I would not accept their offer.

To check where you stand legally are you an AA or RAC member? their legal teams are very good.

There are a number of parts supplier such as

https://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/car-parts/Jaguar/XJ?gclid=CjwKCAjwjtOTBhAvEiwASG4bCGBn0yaJxq3CbzPTjQCrKpcdrBqZc92VEPIS6BLiVMQQgCa56jSLIxoC0JMQAvD_BwE

I hope you can sort it out.

Kind Regards,

Julie.

Update:  I took the car to Kwikfit for a free exhaust check.  Within 5 minutes they found that a weld had cracked just in front of the back box.  I took a video.  I found a specialist exhaust centre who fixed it for £60.  I arranged a meeting with the head of the service department at the dealership and gave him the whole story.  He saw the video.  He was very apologetic and agreed that I had not had the quality of service that I should have, in fact he referred to it as a fiasco.  I was offered £200 off my next service, which I felt was generous as I had not asked for any compensation.

Hi

I have The same problem with my R sport 2.0D 2019 XF.

Jaguar diagnosed faulty Engine mountings , which were replaced at a cost of £780.00.

No difference, I have had it back today ,they now say it is an internal fault in the SCR section of the Exhaust.

To be replaced at a cost of £1081.00.

I am trying to source the part myself , has anyone any advice on where to obtain.
