Undersealing

My 2006 S type passed its MOT with the advisory 'corrosion to subframe'. I would like to try to prevent further deterioration, but regular Waxoyling doesn't appear to have done the trick. Does anyone know of a commercial process which does? TIA. Gerry

Have just had my S-Type done. A new sill to the O/S , all of the underside prepped and cleaned and then treated with HM Kurust and Treated with Black Tetroseal/Wax Rustproof.

Best Wishes and Regards, John

Cheers (again) John. Looks like we're both involved in the same battle to keep our S-Types healthy! I had to have both sills done, then leaned that the MOT inspectors are not allowed to remove the sill covers to inspect, so I could have left it. Being more than a little OCD when it comes to my cars, I wouldn't have done so, but it shows up the silliness of the rules. Anyway, your  underside treatment sounds like what I need too, but my garage wasn't keen to undertake anything like that. Said it would take most of a day. So that's why I couched my enquiry around finding a commercial enterprise which does that sort of thing, similar to, as oldsters will recall, what Ziebart used to do. Any recommendations? Gloucester isn't viable for me, unfortunately.

Appreciate your help, whatever.

Cheers

Gawd, what a technofreak I have become in my old age.I see that I have repeated a response to John, when I hope for a note of appreciation to Joe who has been helpful on the same topic of undersealing. Anyway, the info you provided will be very helpful. I have looked a Lanoguard, of which there is much on offer on eBay, and I'll do the Googling you recommended and see where that gets me. Many thanks, Joe.

There is another treatment done by a company in Dudley, West Midlands. They do all of the underside and interior of as many panels as they can (E.G. Doors etc). The company is called Krown.  https://www.krown.co.uk.

I once spoke with them by email and they wanted around 1/2 to 3/4 of a day to completely do my S-Type.  From memory I believe it would have cost around £400.

I did not go with them. My son in law is the Sales Manager at a Main Dealer and they done the job for me. Not always "what you know", more like "who you know." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Wishes, John

Thanks again John.. I'm in the effete South and Dudley doesn't work for me (neither does £400), especially if i had to hang around there for the best part of a day.

Joe in Staffordshire's previous suggestion of Lano-guard looks promising and I'm trying to persuade my service guy to take on the job. (My son-in-law lives in Florida so is useless as a support resource. I knew my daughter made a mistake, but the grandsons are great, so he's good at some things!)

Cheers

No problem, hope you get the car sorted one way or another. Also that you get to see the grandsons.

Best Wishes, John

I don't think a permanent treatment exists. Every year I'll put the 'S' on the ramps and spend a few hours underneath abrading and paint the subframes. The paint gets blasted off in places over the winter, so the next year, same job.

Quite agree. I do not believe that any of the manufacturers of these products will actually give a life time guarantee, or anywhere near it. I stand to be corrected.

Best Wishes and Regards, John
