DRIVERS DOOR CONTROL ELECTRICS PANEL

Drivers Door Arm Rest Electrical Control Panel:

Help required please, as my electrical knowledge is lacking as compared to my mechanical knowledge.

Control Panel as indicated (Photo) gets warm - hot for touch.  I would not suggest that the plastic panel is untouchable , but it certainly is very warm. This does not happen on short journeys, but only occurs after/on longer journeys (probably after at least 45 - 60 mins). All of the controls are working perfectly and they do not have to be used in order for the heating to occur. My common sense (hopefully) is telling me that this is not normal and that there has to be a reason it is happening/occurring.  None of the other door controls suffer the same problem.

Suggestions of the reason for this occurring and how to rectify it, would be most welcomed and appreciated.

Also appreciated would be knowledge of how this control panel is removed from the arm rest. Is it just gently prised out with a blunt plastic instrument to avoid any marking of the unit and surrounding leather. Or, does it involve removal of the door leather internal panel to access it. I am hoping it will be solved without removal of door panel ........ PLEASE. 😅

Anyone ???????????????????????????

Unless, and hopefully you can, someone can tell me otherwise, it looks as though the door panel has to be removed.

Would still appreciate an explanation of why this control panel gets warm, even although everything is working well.

Best Wishes and Regards, John

Hi

Its normal, its the backlights that make it hot, pull the fuse and it should stay cool

to remove the switch, you need to remove the complete door card, then the handle/arm rest and lastly the switch

cheers

Joe

Joe

Many thanks for above information, which will save me removing the door card.

As you will be aware, the backlights only work when main lights are turned on. I am therefore assuming from what you say regarding pulling the fuse,  that the backlights on this particular control panel have a separate fuse of their own. If not all other backlights would be extinguished as well as the drivers door control panel lights.

I have attempted to trace what/which number fuse is the one that acts on the drivers door backlights but cannot trace any mention of it anywhere.

Would you be kind enough to enlighten me as to which fuse number it is and in which fuse box it is located.

Thanks , once again, for saving the day.

Best Wishes and Regards, John

Thanks Joe

Have run with dimmer control at lowest and highest levels. There is no difference in the degree of warmth that is generated at the door control console.

Guess I shall just have to accept this fact and run with it.

Many thanks and Regards, John
