Ipace weather app stopped working

Hi there,

A couple of weeks ago the weather app on my 2019 iPace stopped working - it just says "Failed to connect" beneath the icon which repeats if I hit Refresh. There is not a problem with my connection to the internet as other apps such as navigation, news and even web browser work ok.

I'm wondering if this could be a problem somwehere in JLR land, but can't find any reference to it anywhere else.

Is anyone else seeing this? If so, has anyone found a way forward, like reporting it to JLR?

Thank you

Dave

Software leaves me not just cold but positively Arctic so i might be way off-beam with this suggestion but have you tried doing an update on it to update all apps?

I've experienced similar on smartphones (and computers even! Most ironic was i couldn't get my broadband and mobile accounts to display on my PC but could on my mobile, all services provided by EE!) over the years i've had them, done an update and - lo and behold - they start working agin, connecting when they should and so on.

The other suggestion i was going to make was give it a few days in case there's a server or software problem at the place where the weather app is fed data but it seems you've already given it a couple of weeks.

Thanks Dave, I checked but it says my software is up to date. It's not a biggie, just annoying and not worth taking to the garage. It's due for a service next month so I'll get the JLR garage to take a look at it. Just suprised that nobody else seems to have seen this problem.

Have you tried the same app on a smartphone or computer? Just wondering if the problem is with the app itself and/or the peole that provide it rather than being a car problem.

Afraid not, Dave the app in question is one of those built in to the car as part of the "entertainment system" like the satnav for example and is not the same as an app you can download to a smart phone.

I think you are on the right track though as it does look more like a problem with the servers which should be providing the data rather than the car, However if that is the case I'm mystified that it is not being reported by every other iPace owner who should also be unable to connect to those same servers.

I'll update this thread in a couple of weeks if anyone is interested once the garage have taken a look at it when it is serviced.

Thanks for your interest!

  • 2 weeks later...

There are many that would say, "Before integrated technology, the weather app was accessed by looking through the windscreen" 😛

Joking aside, i sometimes wonder how useful technology is if we can't use it as intended. Just bought a Honda CR-V to replace my ageing Volvo 760 and it has satnag built in to the radio/CD player. It won't read the satnag DVD, presumably because the disc is outdated or a copy but it renders the satnag part of the original ICE as useless. This means ultimately i'll probably replace it with an aftermarket double-DIN head unit with Android satnag built-in plus of course BT connectivity for my phone etc.

How long will it be before subsequent owners of things like i-Paces replace the orignal head units with ones that keep up with maps etc?  First thing i did when i got my S Type a year ago was fit an aftermarket single-DIN head unit with BT connectivity so i now have full duplex handsfree on my phone plus music and satnag from the phone through the car audio system - even a handsfree mic mounted at the top of the A pillar trim.

Still need to make a new fascia plate to mount it nicely but that's another story involving a (yet to be designed and built) English Wheel and a 3mm sheet of aluminium...........

You are spot on, Dave. As of a week or so ago the "Unable to connect" message went away and the weather app now tells me what the weather is now (as you say) exactly as i can see through the windscreen). However, tap the icon to obtain a forecast of the rest of today or the next 5 days (which is a bit more useful) and the display says "Loading...." and thats as far as it gets.

The car is booked into the Jag garage for its MoT and service at the end of this month and I have asked them if they can take a look. I guess it may be a S/W upgrade that can't be done over the air? I'll update this thread with their feedback.

Meanwhile I'm happy that if the car HAS to have a glitch, this is probably the most harmless one imaginable!

No issues during MoT, always a relief.

The official word on the weather app is that their provider has stopped giving them the information (!) and they are looking for an alternative source. I suspect this isn't high on their priority list, but apparently once they have found one there will need to be an "over the air" software update.

Glad to know there isn't anything wrong with the car so I wonder if this will get "fixed" before it's time to trade this motor in for a newer one? And yes, I will almost certainly be going for another iPace...
