Hi all, possible Jag newbie contemplating buying a 3.0 diesel XF. Have found one for £7/- with 70,000 on the clock and alleged FSH on a 2011 plate in dark blue with 2 previous owners. Any advice what to look out for specifically most welcome.

I've got a 2014 3litre Sportbrake and is without doubt the best car I have ever had, and I've had some nice ones, inc Bentley Turbo, M5, M3, & numerous Merc's, and this car beats them all hands down, and it still looks like new.

Expect 35mpg around town and up to 50mpg on a run at 70mph

They go like stink, and I was so impressed by it I have recently got a mint XKR Convertible, for the summer.

£7000 Sounds a good price, & I have done 80,000 in mine without a spanner on it except for service items

Good luck

Apppreciative of the reply, thank you! Spent hours researching, should I/shan't I and amazed how some reviews state best car ever owned others worst car nothing but agro etc etc. I guess it's the same with all cars, one could be a pearler the other a lemon.

I've never bought an older car before but this will be a 'weekend fun car just for myself to waft around in.

What I would like to know though is:

1). Does car need to be maintained/serviced/repaired by a Jag specialist or would a good independent garage suffice and be able to cope with any complexities?

2). At 70,000 miles  things like cambelt and waterpump , should they have been replaced by now as part of service history?

Any advice most welcome!

Hi Jon,

I always have my cars serviced by a local independent as he does a good job and is cheaper than main dealer. But if you want to sell the car in future a main dealer service stamp does look better. Its what you prefer really.

Check your paper work with the car to see if water pump etc changed by previous owner possibly any invoice or receipts?

Hi Julie, splendid, thank you, really helpful!

It was things like the belts and fuel pump that made me twitchy but armed with what to look for could well seal the deal if accompanying invoices etc are forthcoming.

Phoning the dealer tomorrow with questions aplenty!
