Looking to purchase a 2007 XJ V8 4.2

Featured Replies

Hi there

I'm new to the club and the jaguar world and was looking for some advice on purchasing my first jaguar if anybody can please help.

It's a 2007 XJ V8 4.2 with 74k miles, one owner from new with a full main dealer / jaguar specialist history pack (quite a find I think these days).

I'm viewing the car this weekend, should there be anything in particular I should be looking for on inspection, or anything I should be asking questions about ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Steve

First piece of advice would be to place this request for support under the correct Forum Club on the site. If you are looking for assistance with an XJ, place your post in the XJ Forum, third section from the top of the list and then into the 2003 onwards section. Perhaps one of the Admin staff can move this post thread for you. Currently you are listing in the X-type section!

These (XJ) are great cars and pretty robust engine wise. Aluminium body will not rust, but white powder, aluminium, corrosion could still appear so check carefully around the wheel arches and front where stone chips might be present. A good service record should be present as regular servicing is key to long life.

Check the interior, especially the driver's seat bolster to give a good clue as to whether it has been cherished / looked after properly. The bolster leather can be easily worn and for the mileage, may show a few signs of wear.

Battery is important as the electronics are susceptible to low voltages - even if the car still starts on the button. 5 years of age is a good yardstick for replacing the battery.

It's a lot of car and very powerful, so good premium tyres all round are important - don't skimp on tyres for this machine.

Unless you are an experienced mechanic, I would suggest you find a good local independent garage you can trust and then build a rapport with them to look after your car - if you go ahead with the purchase. There are some really good garages for Jaguar specialists in Cheshire, but it's a big county so it depends where you are.

Many thanks for your help, it's really appreciated.

I live in Tarporley near Chester, can you advise on a local jaguar garage for servicing etc ?

Many thanks

Thank you again for the info on the garage in Macclesfield (which isn't to far from me).

Upon searching, we seem to have a local jaguar specialist here in Tarporley that I wasn't aware of. No idea how good they might be and obviously recommendations are better to work with, but I was wondering if you had ever come across them before ?

No, haven't come across SVS, but then I am not from the area, just know folks who are. Worth a try since they are very local to you and always have a second opinion from Macclesfield if required.
