HI Anthony,

Personally I'm a huge fan of Autoglym, I've been using their products for a number of years and have always been impressed by the results.

As for your wheels, to get the best results consider jacking up the car and removing each wheel to give it a thorough clean:

  • Treat the alloys like paintwork, give them a good rinse with ample amounts of water (hose ban's been lifted);
  • Wash thoroughly with a soap solution such as AG body shampoo or alternatively AG Clean Wheels.
  • Depending on the amount of muck on the alloys, especially tar, it may need Tar Remover or AG Instant Tyre;
  • Once done give them a good rinse;
  • Dry off with a microfibre cloth;
  • polish with AG Super Resin polish - sounds a bit mad but helps seal the alloys with a good shine.
  • Consider waxing??

The bonus about polishing and/or waxing the alloys it reduces the amount of crap and brake dust that adheres to the alloys, making the next round of cleaning that much easier.

Must not forget the tyre, I use AG Instant Tyre dressing, which is sprayed on (perhaps best to apply before the Resin Polish) as you don't want to spray on to your shiney alloys. The dressing can be left to dry for a very wet black look, alternatively wipe off with a microfibre cloth for a matt finish.

Happy cleaning - just don't forget to post some pics of a job well done.

Dave

  • 2 years later...

I use Autoglym metal polish,dab around the rim,wipe on,leave for 5 mins then wipe off.Polish with cotton wheel via hand drill to get perfect shine then spray Autoglym alloy wheel protector on,leave to dry & wipe off excess.

For the tyres I use Maguirs ultimate gel,dab onto tyre in several places then rub in ( gently ) with a soft brush,lasts for weeks !

Hi Jim,

I have noted that product for future use.

My alloys need a refurbish which will happen layer in the year  ---   a previous owner parked too close to the kerb on several occasions!

Recommendations needed for a good place to go suitable for a pensioner's income.

Regards,

Peter.
