Hi, I am a recent owner of an S-Type which I adore, but it needs a new bonnet liner. I am struggling to find a supplier. I would be very grateful if anyone could suggest where I could get one. Thanks Gerry.

Hi Gerry,

I'll ask the obvious, do you have a breakers nearby? Have you looked on eBay? You could always try SNG Barratt (www.sngbarratt.com) or Racing Green Jaguar (www.thejaguarshop.com). The latter is based at Farnborough.

Failing all of the above, you could always go to a dealer ("How much?????") :D  :D

Happy hunting,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply much appreciated. I did look on eBay but without any success. That said I am not sure 'bonnet liner' is the correct expression. I mean the large pad fixed to the underside of the bonnet, I guess to dampen noise and act as a heat barrier. I am just not certain what they are called, I made up the name bonnet liner, though you seemed to know what I meant. Breakers is a good idea.

Cheers,

Gerry.

Hi Gerry,

Reading your post above I knew exactly what you meant, so just to check the rest of the world, I launched Google (images) typed in "S-Type bonnet liner" and the first couple of pages were all of bonnets raised showing the lining predominately used for noise reduction. The first dozen or so pictures were of Jags, mostly S-Type but a few XJS managed to get in there. The other oxymoron, was "hood" - you gotta love the Americans.

Scolling on a couple of images, they were from breakers, others were from information sources (i.e. not selling).

Regards,

Dave

Top man Dave!

Since reading your reply I have fired off a couple of emails to breakers. I referred to it as a liner so after your research I did the right thing :-) Tomorrow I will ask a local car parts bloke who is very helpful.

I'll report back and let you know how I got on.

Cheers,

Gerry.

Hi Dave,

Car parts man could not help, no reply from a breaker so I contacted a Jag dealer to ask price, he wants to know chassis number first so I will get that over the weekend, presumably on a plate under the bonnet.

Anyway I have another question for you. Do you know where the lumber support adjustment switch is, I only have a two way switch, yet I know there is an adjustment because when I hit the memory button on the door the previous owners adjustments kicked in and I could feel the lumber cushion move.

Any thoughts.

Cheers,

Gerry.

Hi Gerry,

Shame about your 'car parts man' as you know the dealer is going to be top dollar. The Vehicle Identification Number which the dealer will need to help him get the right part can be seen from the outside of the car on a plate in the lower left edge of the windscreen.

Re: you lumber support are you driver's seat buttons like the ones below?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info regarding the postion of the plate with the number I need, I know what you mean about the dealer wanting top dollar, I am interested to hear what he says and then I will make a decision, also if I end up going to a breaker I will know what sort of deal I am getting.

Nice one with the photo of the buttons. Looking at your photo I have the bottom button and side but not the top. You're going to tell me the top is the lumber support positoin button.....

Cheers,

Gerry.

Hi Gerry,

You're spot on with the buttons, the top button comes in two versions: a four button or two button version. Mine (in the phot) is the two button version which has the adjustment in and out. The four-way button has the same and also the ability to move the support up and down.

But all this doesn't help you, I read that on some earlier models the lumbar support was an optional extra :o.

I've read in a different forum (admittedly the car was an X-Type) forward / rearward movement of the bottom of the back rest control adjusted their lumbar control. Clutching at straws.

Best regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Its an SE 54 plate. With the button configuration I have it certainly looks like no lumber support adjustment, what is confusing me I felt it move when I pushed the memory button on the door and got the previous owners settings. One of lifes mysteries, I will do a bit of research and see what i come up with, as always thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Gerry.
