If you don't mind a longish haul, E & E Services Milton Keynes. (See top of this post). I've recently moved to Yarwell East Northants and still use them. Mark & David are great guys and fully trained. They do know their stuff. They've looked after my S TYPE for nearly 8 years now.

I have had my XJ serviced by WinSpeed motor sport 148 Broad Street, Wood Street Village, Guildford GU3 3BJ 01483 537706. They are classic and modern Jaguar engineers. Some really beautiful cars around the place XK 120 XK 140 and E types a plenty. Jay who looks after the modern cars is a really personable guy who exudes competence and knowledge. Real enthusiasts whom I would recommend.

Hi Guys

"Rupert" has returned home safe and sound, and running like the proverbial. He has been to E & E Milton Keynes for a new radiator. £260 for the rad plus consumables, labour and VAT. Total £680. Absolutely top class job. Can recommend wholeheartedly.

Cheers

Thanks Steve, I think that I'll look elsewhere as I wasn't impressed when I rang them previously. The google reviews certainly reminded me of my initial experience. Ta

After frustration with a selection of Franchised dealers, we decided to attempt to locate a suitable Indie Jag Specialist.  This as a result of, for example, our XK leaving a franchised dealer with wayward tyre pressures (36 and 24 in the fronts, 24 and 34 in the rears, not quite what Mr Jaguar had in mind!), and, as another example, despite asking another (3 times) as to whether they actually used Castrol engine Oil, best response was a curt screenshot of the Oil spec but with no confirmation that it would be Castrol. We drew the conclusion that Castrol wasn't used!   This was after managing to get past all the "pretty people" at the front of the premises.  Also, with our XK, we are not even sure that the Oil change which was part of the sales service was actually carried out.

Bingo, and we have found our Indie to look after our low mileage (8K miles) '07 X150 XK and '07 S-type - we today visited Elite and Performance Jaguar at Derby for the annual service on the XK. Pleasant and spotless premises, very affable staff, and the work was commenced shortly after we arrived (to enable cool-down, as we had travelled 45 miles from home to try out Elite). We were offered a lift into town, but elected for a shortish walk to the local retail park for a shuftie around and a breakfast. Upon return in the suggested time scale, almost done, and a helpful presentation of exactly what was what with our pride and joy.  We determine that they don't suggest work that isn't necessary, and don't charge/quote silly money.

Elite are clearly perfectionists, and enthusiasts for enthusiasts, so we are delighted.  Needless to say, both our Growlers will be visiting Eliite as and when required.....highly recommended and we have come away with a good sense of confidence and wellbeing......give them a try.

As ever, happy growling.  Purrrfect

Does Anyone Know A Jaguar Mechanic Withinreater Manchester

X Type With Black Smoke coming from Exhaust When Using Excelerater and Feels Like it is Misfiring At 2000rpm

Many Thanks

A can of Diesel Magic should clean the injectors which is at the root of the problem.  If you go to Halfords or a similar store you will find other additive which will cure the problem.

Black smoke is an indication that you are burning too much fuel --  possibly cause by dirty injectors.

Anyone in the Manchester, Bolton, Wigan area I would recommend http://jagman.co.uk/...used them regularly over the past 6 years with no complaints.

Their address.....Jagman, Platt Street, Platt Bridge WN2 5DA...(Dave)

I also use a Jaguar trained mobile mechanic named Ian Caton...Cato Auto's Tel No  07709 345351

Ian is an excellent mechanic, does not overcharge. I have been using him over the past 8 years on all family cars....no job to large!!!

He is based in Leigh area.......the down side is that he is always very busy and not always able to do urgent work.

Quite funny - I need to get my XJ8 on an Autologic machine - and thought I'd work out where Northfield garage is on Streetview - and found myself wandering around in the Thai Massage emporium next door. The places these Google cams get to these days!

Maybe I take the Jag to get the emissions sorted and have a masseuse check me out at the same time... I wonder which would cost more?

Hi, new to group and new to Jaguar. My first Jaguar and what a lovely car. As an experienced Landrover owner I am up to date with Jaguar/Landrover main dealers. So am interested in a reliable independent. Does anyone have experience of a garage around Worcester, noted Northfield which is a bit of a hike but a fall back if nothing else pops up. Thank you for allowing me on the group.

Welcome to the club, Richard.

Northfield has a good reputation.  I don't know the Worcester area, so I can't help you on that.

I have successfully avoided main dealers for aftercare and have used a mobile mechanic for 15 years.  I might be worth investigating that avenue.

Regards,

Peter,

Mobile Mechanic maybe a way forward, as you are based in the West Midlands would you care to share the details please?

Hi Richard,

I live in Sutton Coldfield and Karl only operates around that area.  The way he works for me is he comes to our house, leaves his car on my drive, takes away my car, does the required work and comes back with my car.

If it is a job that can be done on my drive, he comes in his van , does the job, and then he goes.  I doubt if he would go to Worcester, Too far,

It is worth checking if there is such an operator in your area, as they are usually very well qualified mechanic who prefer to work for themselves instead of a Garage.

Regards,

Peter
