My 2.7 ltr diesel has developed an intermittent turbo problem. The engine management light comes on occasionally and sometimes I get a "restricted performance" message on the display in the dash. When this happens the turbo doesn't run and the power output is very low. I understand that this is a fairly common problem so if any member can help me I would be very grateful. I am looking to find a specialist who can fix the problem at a reasonable price.

Many thanks.

I had a similar problem, then yesterday the car failed to start, turned over normal but just wont start, I had the OBD checked and the code was PO62E (nobody seems to know that code).

I would try and get the OBD checked maybe the code will tell you something, I have a cheap reader, but I am in Ashford Kent, seems a few members own these so maybe some member near you will help, or call the AA they have them on board.

I cant find anyone that knows anything in my area, except the main ££££££agents£££££.

I understand that the 2.7 shares many parts with the ford Mondeo.

Its really a shame that there is not more member participation in listing reliable repair shops and symptoms and remedies.

My local dealer seems good but expensive, there must be people out there that can help.

fact is the electrics and electronics seem to be poorly documented, surely there must be a series of simple test to check the components or a step by step guide.

Sooner or later if you drive a Jaguar you are likely to have electronic problems, used Jags dont holdon'teir value, I am sure this is a big factor.

  • 4 months later...

I have a 2005 S type diesel with the turned down exhaust pipe. It has done 142000 miles and had new turbos under warranty at about 25,000miles.

I have a similar problem in that the "Reduced performance" message would appear for between 1  and 20 minutes after a warm start - but there was no reduction in performance and the mpg seemed OK. I took it to a main dealer who did a health check! They told me my near side EGR valve was failing. I bought one on line and got a local mechanic to change it. A few days later the message re-appeared. So I bought a cheap code reader that could also reset fault codes.

It tells me the fault code is P132A with a hexadecimal number 07E8. If I reset the fault code and do a totally cold start it won't display the message, however many miles I drive. Stop the car for any time up to about 5 hours and the fault reappears immediately when it's restarted, but only for a few minutes then goes out leaving the orange engine shaped symbol on. The performance is fine and so is the mpg.

Is this a turbo failing or some other component?

Just had the same restricted performance messages.  On restarting it would come on again after various distances - a few hundred yards to a mile.  It became more frequent and turned out to be a very dirty air filter (despite recent service?).  Replaced air filter and no more messages.  I thought it was going to be expensive but cost £12!

HI I had the same problem with my 2.7 diesel.

what happens is the diesel runs through and blocks up the turbo, injectors , cat etc.

what I did before taking it into the garage is try and run some turbo cleaner through it maybe 2 bottles to try and un block it!

another thing it could be is the actuator on top of the turbo that powers the turbo to work.  and on from the 2000 model on wards they put electrical ones on that are  common to just disconnect from bad weather and electrical faulty..
