I have a 2009 Jaguar XF, and my key was stolen. I went to the dealer in Charleston, SC, and they want to charge me damn near $2000 for a new key. Something is wrong with this picture. Can someone please tell me how I can get a key for my car. I called 15 car locksmiths in Charleston and none of them can help me.

In the UK a lot of locksmiths can now code car keys for a lot cheaper than the dealers and there are mobile locksmith that have kit. Not sure that helps much as looks like you are in the US at all.

You could always go the route I did and purchase the OBDSTAR-H100 and try programming a (couple of) new key(s).
That’s what I did after my only key fob was obliterated in a car accident.

I now have two new working key fobs.

Private message me if you want a link to a thread about it on another forum, as I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post link here.
You can also search YouTube for info on reprogramming a new XF fob.

There are several posts here that said they got key fobs and had them programmed by locksmiths or someone other than the dealer.  Were any of these for a 2016 or later Jaguar XF.

Did the FOBs operate properly?  Did the dead remote battery proximity start feature work as well?

Hi, I have a S-type Jag (2003) and one working key/fob but would like a spare, having misplaced the other one. I don't need a working remote just a key that mechanically fits the door and boot locks. Unfortunately I am in France so cannot visit nearby locksmiths as others have done? If I supply a UK locksmith with the VIN number and French registration info could I get a key cut to fit my locks? If so could you recommend anyone to do this? Thanks in advance.

Hi Ian, and welcome to the club.

What I am going to tell you could be very useful but also a little difficult.

My s type keys were causing a little problem, and,as you say, would be a bit costly to repair.

I live in Sutton Coldfield - Birmingham - and I went to a local engineer & locksmith who managed to "invent" two keys for me for £100 after they checked my electrical part of the car.

Duplicat Vehicle Locksmiths can be looked at in the Internet.  Just tell me if this is of use.

Regards,

Peter.

Had a quote from JLR to replace my second key for a 2017 XF for over £800.  I phoned up these guys, https://jaguarlandroverkeys.uk. and Quinton told me it should be no problem!  He arrived at 10.50am and was all done by 11.20.  I had my working second key and a much more realistic bill of £320 for the new key.  Awesome!  Cannot recommend enough.
