2007 S-Type radio/cd problems. Mystery.

2007 S-Type. Single slot CD player and bluetooth connectivity. Phone and radio/cd controls on steering wheel.

So that's the kit now to the fault and its a strange one with no real answers found hence why I'm posting!

Radio controls/buttons stopped working nothing worked on the dash controls or the steering wheel controls. The cd was still playing and I could hear it as the only button that did work was the volume!

So to try and rectify the fault first I checked fuses all ok.

Then I thought disconnect the battery see if it re-boots. Once I'd disconnected I needed to input the radio code which I have but alas the buttons to input the code will not work!!

So I've pulled the radio out looking for loose wires non visible. Since but it all back together and still exactly the same.

Any help suggestions or any one encountered similar problems please post.

I have been told by Jaguar specialists it might be better to purchase a reconditioned radio.

Hi Patrick thanks for your replies on this mystery subject!

I've had no problems with the heating controls only the radio/cd. I think the info I got from a trusted independent Jaguar specialist that to replace the radio was a much more simple option than trying to locate exactly what the problem could be was pretty good advice as it appears no one can actually pinpoint what the problem is.

They quoted me roughly around £120 for a used fully tested decent condition radio/cd matching exactly the one that's currently in the car. There are a odd one or two on eBay now and again.

Just to let you know mine is the single slot CD player no satnav. I got the impression from your posts that maybe yours was fitted with satnav.

Obviously you having the heating issue might make it a little more than just radio replacing.

Hope you get it sorted before you change the car if I discover anything I'll post it.

All the best Ian

Hi Patrick

I have researched your fault and managed to find a Jaguar Bulletin for diagnosis of the SatNav system.

As Ian has suggested, there may be another separate issue with the heating system, although if the power supply has been interrupted at any point (fuse blown, etc) this could have an effect on the individual systems.

I would therefore, check the fuses have not blown before embarking on further diagnosis and component replacement.

I hope this helps and that you do not have to resort to selling the car  :(

Regards,   Trevor

thanks for file and positive feedback but these are the things i tried but seemingly according to taggarts it need a reprogramme of sorts ,they said it was not just a case of putting in new disc quoted me 100 quid before they fix it ,i dont know what is inside dvd unit but i have a good mind to open it up and see if its a hard drive of sorts try and plug it into pc or laptop as i have all the cables to check hard drives and see if i can put disc contents straight into module then they can work for their money

cheers guys will keep you informed

Hi Paddy,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if you had the same problem. My car has just a Radio/CD and no SatNav.

I was driving along one day listening to the radio when it changed channel and since then none of the buttons on the unit or on steering column are working...

It seems from your message that you had a problem with the SatNav/CD player only.

Thanks again,

Kevin

Hi Kevin

I had pretty much the same sounding fault as you. I took mine to a old school car radio repairers been in business for years and always seem to have the answers.

So I'd already pulled the radio out of the car and he then bench tested it, within 30 mins he'd located the fault as basically a failed component I can't exactly recall what it was but it was broken. What he did with mine was use the failed component from a Land Rover radio which he had in his workshop. It was all fixed and perfect within the hour. He charged me £60.

I'm not sure whereabouts you are but this repairer is in Bury just north of Manchester, if your not near there try and find someone with the same knowledge as my guy and see if they can do the same. It definitely sounds the same problem.

If you need details of where I went let me know.

Ian

Hi Ian,

That's great news that it can be repaired. I live in Ayrshire in the West of Scotland so Bury is not much use to me.

However if you could send me his contact details I could ask him what part(s) he replaced and that would be very helpful.

Thanks again Ian,

Kevin

2006 Series X.  Replaced a dead battery with a new one and radio would not turn.  I am not getting code light so entering the four digit code doesn't do anything.

Looked for the proper fuse but could not find any diagram listing for a radio fuse.

Any ideas?
