XF niggles

I've had my Xf for just over a month now and I'm loving it.

However there are a few niggles.

Firstly the volume on the stereo reduces when reversing etc, and sometimes doesn't return to the original volume and I have to manually adjust it.

Secondly I'm using a USB hard drive with all my MP3 files on it. Again it mostly works flawlessy, but on two occasions it seems to have forgotten where it was on returning to the car, and simply started playing the first track.

And finally, my XF has a sunroof. The headlining around where the sunroof retracts squeaks and creaks a little. It is minor, but as the only creak in the whole car it's annoying. The car is still under manufacturers warranty until the 18th September, but is any messing around at this stage likely to just make the problem worse, and is something like this even covered by warranty.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Graham

Hi Graham,

I suggest that you talk to your dealer about these issues.

I'm sure that creaking noises should be covered under warranty and also the radio fault(s) should definitely be covered.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards

Trevor

Thanks for the reply Trevor. But I think I may have left it a bit late now. The manufacturers warranty runs out today, and I'm off on holiday tomorrow anyway. Not sure if these things would be covered by the extra 6 months warranty the independent dealer I bought the car from gave me.

Will have to check on return from my holds. Although my previous experience with creaks and squeaks is that they never really manage to sort things out. They usually come back after a while.

Just wondering whether I have the latest software in the car, anyone know how to check. Can updates only be done by a dealer?

Regards

Hi Graham,

Hopefully the creaking noise can easily be resolved...possibly remove the offending trim part, apply some sealant/silicon spray and refit. The hardest part of the job is usually locating the exact source of the rattle/creak!

As for software updates, a Jaguar specialist should have equipment (Autologic, for example) to carry this out but it depends on how available and updated the software on their equipment is.

Regards,  Trevor

Hi Graham,

The sunroof issue shuould still be covered under warranty. the biggest mistake i made was by an XF with a sunroof.... My sunroof has been in 7 times now throughout the year. If your dealer have been aware of this or has a log of it before the warranty ran out then this should be looked at, or the extended should look after it.

The XF suffers from rattling clip that have had a re modification for. ask your dealer to fit these, and make sure they dont cover your headlining with silicon spray, its a bugger to get out. Check the rubber external seals, these perish and causes the roof to move when the chassis is under strain. and lastly, im not sure how old your car is, howver there was a re call/Mod to have some tig welds added under by the parcel shelf, this stiffens things up a bit limits the creaking noises.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks 2010XFR. Sorry for the delay replying, I've just returned from holiday.

I will look into this, however I'm worried that if I start messing eith these things that it may get worse.

It's really only noticable when you have the stereo off.
