Hi Raymond,

firstly, have you tried replacing the battery inside the Smart key?.... (battery number CR2032)......Page 9 in my XF Handbook....If the battery is LOW a message should appear on the XF's Message Centre........SMART key BATTERY LOW..........There are 6 Sensors on the Saloon XF...page 177 in my Handbook. There may be a bad contact inside the key where the Battery sits......Another test that you can make is when your XF fails to unlock, immediatly go to tht rear of car and try to open the Boot by pressing the Button under the Chrome Strip.(as you know, when the car is "Armed" you can open the boot as long as you have a working key within range of the Boot Sensor). If the boot opens then it could mean that the "Drivers Door Sensor" is at fault......also try Unlocking the car when standing beside the Nearside Passenger door, as there are Sensors located near to each of the Door Handles. If you can, try to Unlock your XF on the Nearside of the car. Do this for a period of days in order to see if it fails to Unlock the car. If the car fails to Unlock from the Nearside also, then it is either the Key or the XF's Unlocking Module .If it is the Unlocking Module this will probably mean a trip to a Jaguar Dealer. There is one other item mentioned in my XF Handbook (page 78).....If the Smart Key fails because of an internal fault inside the Key Unit, a message should appear on the Message Centre..SMART KEY NOT FOUND - REFERE TO THE HANDBOOK. This message should appear when you are sitting inside the car with the ignition ON.

If I had this problem I would change the battery first, regardless of NOT recieving a Low Battery Warning. I would also try to Unlock the car from the Nearside rear passenger door for several days in order to see if I could get the Unlocking System to FAIL from this position.

Sorry if the above is a bit "Long Winded" but these intermittent faults do sometimes take a while to sort out.

Hope you eventually get your problem sorted

Regards...........Billyboy

Billyboy thanks for your comprehensive reply. I will start with battery in key fob as you suggest. The car is new to myself but 2 years old so could be a good shout. My wifes focus works without any issues and was expecting mine to be similar. But will give it a bash thanks again for replying to my first post raymond

Hi Raymond,

Same thing happened to me few weeks ago, just to confirm it was the battery, me and the wife tend to use the same fob, so I picked up the spare which rarely gets used and the car worked a treat.

Replacing the battery was straight forward.

Welcome to the Club ,Terry.

I don't know the XF boot system, but I think an XF owner might know the answer.

The club is a friendly group of people who do try to help other out with their experiences.

Anyone know what to do when changing the fob battery doesn't work?

Was working fine, then got the message about low battery, put in a new CR2032, nothing... nada... zip!

To make matters worse, the key blade only opens the passenger side - and his nibbs and I are both far too big to be climbing over the centre console. Is there a programming procedure somewhere? Can't find anything in the manual, and all I've found online mentions ignition key positions - not very useful with a start/stop button :(

Help! LOL

Ne'er mind, it's done. Turns out the second contact that should touch the side of the battery needed twisting up a bit. Of course, it snapped off so I had to get the solder out. Next time it needs changing we might have to swap the car instead

Hi guys

Terry mentioned a scenario where the keyless entry worked fine on the doors but the boot failed.... My car has just started doing the same thing.  I have tried both keys and they do the same thing.....

Did anyone diagnose the problem???

Well I am getting a little hacked off with my XF

Since buying it from Jaguar Tamworth I have no end of issues with the navigation, a/c, control centre. This culminated with several visits to the garage, module changes and what I though was finally the changing of parking sensors. I was led into a false sense of " it all behind me now" not so.....

The ?,?!.!,,,ing key fob now randomly unlocks the car, how crap is it that you lock the car and reluctantly walk off knowing that before you take 10 pace the car unlocks to the sound of the opening wing mirrors Ahrgggg. it teases me..

I am using the spare fob but has anyone experienced this before? Is the fob in need of reprogramming or binning, like I feel about the car right now?

Any advise or experiences would be welcome.

thanks in advance

Hi Ian, and welcome to the club.

I am rather surprised that Colliers look as if they are being very remiss in what they ought to be doing.  I have dealt with them for quite a few years and have found them quite good.

However at times all dealers are not!

It appears to me that they are guessing and that a good  at locksmith is needed.  I would suggest that you go and see them, tell them that if you can get the problem solved independently that they should settle the bill.  If they agree, there is a specialist in the area [i have never used them] who say that they will do the reprogramming which I think the car needs.

www.24hrkeyassist.co.uk

Worth trying, Ian, and if Colliers don't agree, tell them you will do it anyway and take them to the small claims court to get your money back.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.

I have a Jaguar xf 2.7 2008. I have an issue with the unlocking of the passenger front door. I can access the door using keyless entry when I approach the passenger door and open it. However if I open any other door using keyless entry then the passenger door will not open. I need to reach across to pull the handle to open the passenger door every time my passengers get out of the front Door and close it behind them.  I don't know what the issue is. Any ideas.

Hi. I'm hoping to get some advice about a challenge I'm having in not being able to unlock my car (Jaguar XK Convertible). I tried to use my remote key fob this evening, but sadly to no avail. The car appeared dead. I tried my spare, just in case the battery in the key fob was dead, but neither would open the car. I had this experience a few months ago and this was I'm told due to an electrical storm which caused a power surge and wiped out the area. After about 45 mins of trying the fob and manual key out of the fob, neither option working, eventually the car opened with the usual click of a button. Tonight I'm wondering if it's due to the heavy frost or perhaps a flat battery? Either way I'm currently unable to get into the car and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks...

Tracy

Hi Tracy, and Welcome to the club.

It was quite cold yesterday, and the Park Brake on my s type stuck on.  When I eventually got it to clear by disconnecting the battery, it failed again. Agains I did the same clearing process covered the car over after running the engine for 20 minutes.  It was OK this morning.

I did some checking, as I thought that the only reason could be a faulty module, which a main dealer would charge £224 + fitting.  One of the answers I got indicated that it could be the car battery being low on power.

Jaguar cars, having a lot of electrical goodies on board, do need a fully charged battery, and this could be possible in your case.

My car is now sitting outside the garage being charged.

I hope it works for you, and I hope you let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

Thanks for your response. I've managed to get into the car by using the key on the passenger door. Everything is dead so I'm assuming it needs a new battery. Let's hope it's just that!

Best Regards

Tracy

Hi Guys,

I have a problem with my 2012 Jaguar XF. It doesn't unlock sometimes and this happens mostly in the mornings. You can open the drivers door but the alarm goes off. I thought it was the  remote battery, I changed it and the issue still continued. I also changed the car battery because this issue only happens in the mornings and it still didn't fix my problem. Sometimes when I drive the car the power goes off and it shuts down everything that works with electricity(radio, I can't open windows...) while it's still on. And it also shows funny errors, like there's no fuel in the car, brakes, blind spot checker not working.

This issue doesn't happen all the time, sometimes the car can go for days without this issue. What might be the problem?

Please help guys.

Hi. I wonder if anyone can offer advice on the following problem with the keyless central locking my 2014 XF 2.2 200 which has just started. First, when I unlock the car with the driver’s door handle, the mirrors do not un-park. I tried the other 3 doors in turn and all DID un-park the mirrors as well as unlockking the car. Later, I 5ried to unlock the car with my fob, the lights flashed, the mirrors stayed parked and the left passenger door remained locked. I got out the spare remote ( rarely used) and tried that but with the same result. I then pressed the lock button on the fob, the lights flashed but mirrors did not park. I then moved the fob out of range and tried to open the driver’s door which set off the alarm!

I do not think it is the battery being low as my local Marshall dealership charged, checked and conditioned the battery only last week.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Ian

Hello,

1. On the  2011 Jaguar XF, both FOBs are working intermittently.  When it is locked with the FOB the horn sometimes blows one time.  From that point on the FOB will not unlock any doors.  If the mechanical key is used to open it, I can disarm it with the FOB, startup and everything works fine.  When the FOB fails to open the locks, you can hear the gas compartment unlock and immediately relock.  The FOB will open the truck, without any problems.  Changed the FOB battery and thought it fixed the problem, but it started again a few days later.  Now sometimes the FOB works and sometimes it doesn't.  It is unpredictable on when it will work.

2 The Satellite radio will only hold preset channels a few days before they disappear.

I hope these are not an indication of electrical problems. Before I take it to the Dealer is anyone experiencing similar problems?  Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
