  4. The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT ๐Ÿ˜‰ And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.

  6. Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued, becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. Finally, to all of those who have wished us well and offered support I would like to thank you sincerely on behalf of us both ๐Ÿ™‚ Nil carborundum illigitimum.

  11. Hello from North Somerset. I have just bought (and fell in love with) a 2009 2.2 X Type. Iโ€™m looking forward to browsing the forums and hopefully being able to sort out the few very minor niggles with what Iโ€™m sure is going to be a great car. I would also be very interested in any meets that may be in my area.

  14. Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!

  15. Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.

  20. Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')

  22. New pump installed and all is well. The tank is one awkward so and so to get into place and the 2 pipes underneath are just something else but all the nasty messages have gone away and a pint beckons. Happy days.....till the next time

  23. Hi Paul, No need to replace the blades. Pull off the pipes and try again. If you still have no water then your most likely problem will be gunge at the bottom of the washer bottle blocking the filter. You will probably end up removing the bottle to facilitate proper cleaning and it would also be prudent to blow through the pipes with compressed air, just in case.

  24. Hi, just a little into to myself, I'm James and live on the Norfolk/Cambs border. I'm a 54 y/o truck driver and I've just obtained my first XF. I've had two previous Jaguars before, the first was a 2002 3.0 X Type, the latter being a 2008 2.0D X Type. I've now just bought and collected a 2012 XF 2.2 Premium Luxury. So far I'm loving it. Sadly I missed the fact it doesn't have a reversing camera and I've noticed the DAB isn't picking up a signal. Still, it's a lovely car and colour (Claret Pearl) and I will endeavour to rectify these problems and tap you all for advise and info. Many thanks. 20240113_145220.heic

  29. Welcome aboasrd Derek! With your side repeater, remove the lamp as you did to replace the bulb, disconnect the plug and spray some switch/contact cleaner into the end of the plug and on the contacts in the lamp holder. Refit, test. You may have to repeat this several times before the combination of dis/re-connect and the switch cleaner cleans the oxidisation off the contacts. If several attempts don't fix it, do similar with the bulb and holder but also worth checking the bulb actually works.

  33. Hi Dave In answer to your first point I agree, that is what I said ๐Ÿ™‚ , I woould never use it if my destination was an Airport car park! However proponents would argue that is why the cars use AGM batteries that are designed for repeated deep discharge (I don't see myself approaching the expected service specification of over 300000 starts in the next five years). On the second point, again I sort of agree. However, as I said on wear and tear, this is accounted for by the design to minimse wear. A nice little article here: https://haynes.com/en-gb/tips-tutorials/stop-start-technology-explained As I said it is a marmite issue ๐Ÿ™‚ J

  34. Jaguar is commemorating the end of its internal combustion sports car lineage in 2024 with an exclusive limited-edition F-TYPE inspired by two iconic 1960s racing E-types Just 150 examples of the F-TYPE ZP Edition will be the last internal combustion-engined sports cars designed by Jaguar. These 575PS supercharged petrol V8 F-TYPEs feature specially curated interior and exterior details by the personalisation experts at SV Bespoke. "As Jaguar embarks on the boldest transformation in its history, to become a modern luxury all-electric brand from 2025, this is an unrepeatable celebration of Jaguarโ€™s internal combustion sports car provenance. F-TYPE has captivated sports car drivers for more than a decade, just as the E-type did five decades before it. The ZP Edition is the ultimate celebration of that lineage, joining an illustrious roster of heritage-inspired collectorโ€™s editions including the 2015 Project 7 and 2020 Heritage 60 Edition." RAWDON GLOVER - MANAGING DIRECTOR, JAGUAR Two F-TYPE ZP Edition colourways are available, recalling the first race-winning โ€˜Project ZPโ€™ E-types campaigned shortly after the modelโ€™s launch in 1961: Oulton Blue Gloss paint with Mars Red and Ebony duotone leather interior, or Crystal Grey Gloss paint with Navy Blue and Ebony duotone leather interior. Both feature Porcelain White Gloss hand-painted racing-style roundels on the doors and Porcelain White Gloss grille surrounds. Neither exterior paint colour has been offered on F-TYPE before. These colours match the two specially formulated paints created for seven pairs of E-type Project ZP Collection cars announced by Jaguar Classic earlier this year: https://media.jaguar.com/news/2023/06/jaguar-classic-unveils-tribute-first-e-type-race-wins-e-type-zp-collection. Unique interiors with horizontal seat fluting, plus Gloss Black exterior accents and Gloss Black brake calipers, complement exclusive F-TYPE ZP Edition branding details on the fenders, Gloss Black Diamond Turned 20-inch forged alloy wheels, tread plates and dashboard. Each car features a โ€˜One of 150โ€™ SV Bespoke commissioning plaque. Ever since earning accolades including 2013 World Car Design of the Year, F-TYPE has continued to set the benchmark for truly involving, engaging, driver-focused sports cars, with a distinctive V8 soundtrack. The exhaust note is so iconic it is archived in institutions including the British Library. The F-TYPE ZP Edition is available in both Coupรฉ and Convertible body styles. With 575PS, 700Nm of torque and an all-wheel drive system with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) technology, performance is exceptional on all surfaces and in all weathers: 0-60mph takes as little as 3.5 seconds, while top speed is an electronically-limited 186mph. 37. Hi All, Delighted to be able to join you as today Iโ€™ve signed on the dotted line and purchased an XF. The Jaguar is the only car Iโ€™ve ever actually desired, and as Iโ€™m just over 60 (I canโ€™t believe Iโ€™m that age) itโ€™s now or never. Test drove it on Saturday itโ€™s a dream, one owner, full Jaguar service history and 37k miles. Awaiting deliver later this week, really excited. Look forward to help and advice from all of you in the โ€œProwlโ€ which is one of the collective nouns for a group of Jaguars ๐Ÿ† the other two being โ€œLeapโ€ or โ€œParadeโ€ Catch up soon, Norfolk Ian ๐Ÿพ

  38. I seem to have fixed it ! Replaced the memory switch on the door and immediately had the correct operation of the memory functions, but still no drivers seat forward and back movement with the engine running. At this point, I thought that I was still going to need to use SDD to diagnose and possibly have to replace the seat module. Then I thought, what if it has a stored fault code generated by the faulty memory switch ? Connected my code reader and, sure enough, B1B88 was showing. Cleared the code and all working fine since then.

They're a knowledgeable lot on here, unlike many other prestige car forums the usual advice isn't "take it to your dealer", proper practial helpful advice is given that can often fix problems without (expensive) dealer intervention. Enjoy your Jag! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜„

  42. Well I'm feeling chuffed with myself! Like many S owners I have experienced the dreaded headlamp droop, I managed to get a second hand pair and fitted them, but although working, I was conscious that due to their age, that they too could droop at any time, and that they are cloudy, I had been apprehensive about repairing them myself, however after trawling through the how to vids on Utube I decided to bite the bullet, I bought a set of new adjusters online and a headlamp polishing kit, totaling ยฃ30 put the headlamps in a pre heated oven at 80c for 20 minutes, resting on some wood to avoid any hot spots, They came apart easier than I had anticipated, I used fresh microfibre cloths to to polish the inside of the perspex, and warm breath and cloth for the silver, fitted the new adjusters, re assembled them, back in the oven for 20 minutes, bingo, all back together. I then set about polishing the lenses, with the polishing kit 800, 1000, 1500, 3000, grade, then polishing compound, and finally sealer. I must say, although not perfect for my first attempt I'm very pleased, the transformation is excellent. From removal to re installing took around 6 hours! ๐Ÿ˜ For some reason the left side of the bumper wouldn't let go! I have shown the car with the lights on, the right is refurbished, the left isn't the left is diffused because of the foggy lense, I hope this article gives others the courage to have ago as it save a lot of money! I'm now going to refurbish the second pair so that I have spares in case of a mishap!

  43. Probably but 2016 is only a year behind 2015 in terms of ageing and fading. Why not just revive your existing headlamps using T-Cut or one of the headlamp renovation kits available online? Would be cheper and much less grief in the long run and you won't need to come back next year and ask if 2017 headlamps will fit a 2015 car and so on. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜„

  44. Dear Jaguar lovers, I am a new member and seeking your advice. I am about to purchase my very first Jaguar XF. Unfortunately I donโ€™t have anyone who can advise me on what things should I check before purchase, so hoping for your knowledgeable opinion. I found what seems like a perfect car for me, 2017 portfolio XF with 2.0 diesel engine, with 47k miles on the clock. What potential issues can come up at this mileage and age? What should I check/ask the dealer for before purchase? from my online research I gathered that the display sometimes may be lagging so I will definitely check that, apart from that I found that timing belt/chain should be replaced at some point around that mileage as well as oil in the gearbox (itโ€™s automatic) how much do these usually cost. also, how much on average do you spend on servicing your XFs? Iโ€™m very keen to buy this car, but just want to ensure I do all checks possible for smooth driving as well trying to get better understanding how much will I need to have a side for regular maintenance. I look forward for your advice and thank you in advance

  45. Hi Sofia, I bought a 2017 XF-S last year, my second XF (first was a 2011). Only problem so far is glow-plugs not working (cold weather only!), not sure if it's the plugs or the controller, but I need to get it seen to before next winter! BTW, I'm an Essex boi too, from Tilbury, now living in Sussex, where you at? Good luck with your XF - they're great! J

  47. Hi all ,changed N/S & O/S rear door glass quarter seals due them being perished and split easy job 10 mins per side the parts are available at Rimmer Bros N/S -C2Z10105 ยฃ38:48 O/S -C2Z10104 ยฃ36:69 not cheap I know and different price depending on what side ,but I am fussy and every time I cleaned the car it bothered me to change you just have to remove seal no need to disassemble any glass or door, just remove ,clean area ,I used a little washing up liquid as a lubricant to fit new seal to prevent any tearing of rubber whilst fitting and you just push it back into ridge of the door as the other came from job done โœ… thanks Dan

  48. That's really good. The black fluid (it isn't oil) mixed with petrol and burnt, lowers the octane rating with its associated problems. I used a vapour condenser can and set it up on the right side so's to enable easy disposal of the waste fluid.
