  1. Hi I recently had a problem with the touchscreen failing to boot up properly. This was fixed by changing out the bluetooth module beneath the Left front seat.. The cause of the problem was water getting into the area, it was saturated. This seems to be a fairly common problem. I am try to find where the water is getting in and have found a fault in the door seal but I am not convinced that it is the cause. Has anyone else had the problem and traced the leak to elsewhere on the car, to give me a clue as to where to start looking? Thanks
  2. Thanks for the advice. New sensor was fitted along with the brake pads. Is there a way of changing the sensor without stripping down the pads or caliper? Thanks
  3. 2010 XF 3.0 I recently had a brake pad low warning message so yesterday had pads and discs replaced. Brakes work fine but have started getting brake pad warning light again. They disconnected the battery when they did it and so there are various other electrical adjustments to make, including window regulators. Is there a way of resetting the electrics or getting rid of the brake warning light? I can't take it to a dealer as I live in Spain and don't have one. Thanks
  4. Hi Joe When I turn it on max Lo I get cold air from drivers side dash vents and warm air from passenger side air vents. I am told the heater control valve in the engine has been replaced and that the problem is with the climate control module in the dashboard. Would you know if the climate control module forms part of the AC / heater control panel on the dash or is it tucked away somewhere else? It is a 1999 3.0 V6 Thanks
  5. Thank you Russ, that worked perfectly. Don't happen to know anything about air conditioning I suppose?
  6. I have a 1999 3.0 V6 I have just got it back from the garage after replacing the throttle body and accelerator pedal to deal with a failsafe engine mode problem. As they disconnected the battery I now need to put in the radio security code and seem to have run into a problem The four figure code contains a 0 and a 9 but the preset buttons are 1-4 Any suggestions welcomed. I asked Jaguar customer service and they don't know and no-one at a dealership knew either. I am in Spain and the nearest dealership to me is a four hour drive.
  7. My 1999 3.0 stopped working this morning. Failsafe engine mode message and red light so the engine just cut all power, although the engine was still running. I was lucky, I was on a quiet road and was able to come to an orderly stop out of harms way. Has anyone experienced this in heavy traffic, on a motorway say? If I had been doing 70MPH in the outside lane of a busy motorway what might have happened? I couldn't drive and ease my way off the carriageway, I just lost all engine power immediately. On a busy motorway what are the chances that I would have been rear ended? It strikes me this is a very unsafe function. A warning light with "STOP" in large red letters would have a similar effect without stopping you in potentially a very dangerous situation. Anyone want to but a 1999 3.0 V6 S Type. Perfect condition, no known faults .
  8. Had to be towed in this morning. Just popped out to the next village to get petrol and the failsafe plus red light came on and engine lost power. Tried all the normal stuff but wouldn't work. The problem now is that my wife won't travel in the car even as a passenger (if we could get the A/C to work) let alone drive it. I love driving it but I just have no faith in it. If I could sell it I would but you wouldn't sell it here without A/C and I just don't want to throw any more money at it. It is a real shame because when it is working right (30 minutes last Wednesday) it is a lovely car. So far it has cost us 5,500 euros. The AC, sun roof and cruise control still don't work and now the problem with engine failsafe. What will happen next time I try ti o use it? Hate to say it but it has been the worst car I have ever owned. I knew I should have bought the Lexus.
  9. Driving home tonight when this came up. Seems to happen when driving very slowly. It is so frustrating as I really like driving the car but I just can't trust it. I have owned Citroens that were more reliable than this. I am hoping a scan will reveal what the problem is this time. Unfortunately I don't have a Jaguar dealership within a 4 hour drive.
  10. Hi Gary Thanks for that. I have seen this website but they only work on post facelift models, although they do mention pre face lift. They suggest a series of electrical tests which I am not equiped for. I should have said that the DCCV in the engine bay has been replaced. The mechanic who replaced it said that the problem is now in the Climate Control Valve or possibly module, he said both. Can I assume that this is not part of the workings behind the front panel?
  11. I have a 1999 3.0 V6. At the moment my Air Con is not working as it should. I have cold air from the drivers side dash vents and warm air from the passengers side. I have been told that it is the Climate Control valve in the dashboard that is faulty. I have the chance to buy a used unit which is the control panel from the dashboard, with all buttons on etc. I have two questions. Dose this panel and the works attached to it contain the suspect Climate Control Valve? How easy or difficult is it to remove and replace this panel? DIY or professional job? Thanks for advice and assistance, I think I am finally getting there. Everything else on the car works as it should now, apart from this.
  12. Thanks Budgie. I think I have narrowed it down to Sable.
  13. Check your policy. Many policies don't quote an excess on windscreens and on many you don't even have to get the insurers approval, just go ahead and do it.
  14. The leather trim in my car has the code NED which I understand is ivory. I am trying to buy a dash part which is a much darker colour. The only other trim code on the door plate is HP but I can't find it anywhere and it would be useful to have a name. Any clues on how to find out the name of the colour. 1999 3.0
  15. Hi David Thanks for that, I found it and had a look. The sensor looked a bit dusty but I wouldn't say that it was particularly dirty. Does anyone know how it comes out? do you just pull it straight out with a pair of long nose pliers on the plastic body? I have a horrible feeling that I could do more harm than good. If I could just get this fixed I think the car would be a delight. Very frustrating.
  16. Hi David Is your car LHD or RHD? Mine is a 1999 RHD I have looked but there is no sign of a little grill anywhere on the dash. What should I be looking for? Thanks. Dave
  17. Hi David Wow, that was quick. Thanks for that. I will look for the sensor in the morning. If it's not that then will investigate the broken wires. Regards Dave
  18. I have a problem with the AC in my 1999 3.0. From trolling the web it seems that I am not alone. With AC on auto max cool I get cool (not cold) out of drivers side dash vents and warm from passenger side vents. Little or nothing from rear vents. I have been told that it was caused by heater valve or climate control valve and this was supposed to be fixed by a Jag "expert" mechanic by bypassing the valve. This means that you get the same temps on drivers and passenger sides which is not a problem for me, but it hasn't worked. I have already paid out twice what the car cost in fixing problems and I am reluctant to chuck a load more money at it to replace the valves only to find out that it wasn't the problem in the first place. I have read about a dirty temp sensor located in the dash close to the ignition key but I don't know if that was for RHD or LHD car. A few people have said they cleaned that and problem solved. Has anyone actually fixed this problem and if so, what did you do? Does anyone know about this temp sensor, where it is and what it looks like. It is a real shame because in every other way it is a really nice car and it would be great to be able to use it, but when it is 30+ degrees C out then AC is not a luxury.
  19. Back in June I bought a 1999 3.0 sight unseen from Autotrader. I didn't pay the earth and wasn't expecting perfection. The big attraction and deal clincher was that it had only done 56,000 miles backed up by service history and MOTs. I didn't get a warranty as I shipped it straight out to Spain, where I live. Since then I have spent over £2,500 on fixing various problems, including gearbox, A/C and oil leaks. The good news is that the sill are solid, Ironically, all of the problems have been blamed on the low mileage, with perished seals etc. The Jag specialist who has just fixed the gearbox said today that the best cars to buy are reps motors that have done high miles, but all on the motorway and have always been serviced and fixed, regardless of expense. I now have everything fixed but the A/C, despite having a new compressor. and unfortunately A/C is not a luxury here, it is a necessity. Have to say, now the gearbox is working as it should it is a real delight to drive. Be even more of a delight if I wasn't sweating like a pig.
  20. Coming up to replace the rear pads and discs. I am looking at mtec discs and brembo pads. Anyone else used these or have other suggestions? Thanks
  21. My parking sensors work fine during the day when it is warm but don't work properly in the evening when it gets cool, and cool isn't that cool as I live in Southern Spain. Anyone else noticed this or has any suggestions for a fix Thanks
  22. Can I recommend a new tyre, well, new to me anyway. Just had 4 fitted to my 3.0V6S type and I am very impressed. Very quiet, bags of grip in the dry (can't comment on wet as we have not had any rain since June) Gets excellent reviews and if the EU label is to be believed scores very highly on wet grip. The tyre is Davanti DX640 in 235/50/17 98 Y Very well priced but very good. I am so impressed that I am going to put them on my XF when needed.
  23. Well, the car has been with the Jag tech for a week, with mixed fortunes. The good news is that he says it is in excellent condition inside and out. No rust and no signs of damage. He is happy that the low mileage is correct. The bad news is that there are a lot of niggly faults, minor oil leaks and leaking seals, probably because it has been standing so long. The bill will be around £2000.00 which is more than the car cost in the first place but he says that after that the car will be as good as new. I hope so. I am really looking forward to driving it without wondering if I will be driving it home.
  24. Will do. A quick word about replacement cabin/pollen air filters. I have found numerous sites offering air filters they say are correct fitment for the 3.0 1999 onward. They are mistaken. The ones advertised are for 2002 onward and are nothing like correct. I bought one based on my registration number and was assured it was correct Now I am in an argument about paying return postage. Trying to find a replacement another very well known supplier offered the wrong part, assured me that they were correct and that I was wrong and wanted £38.00 delivery. The correct part No. is XR 841123 for 1999-2002 I eventually located one at a company called The Jag Shop in London. Very good price and just £9.50 delivery. By the way, I don't think that the filter had ever been changed before, it was a mess. PS Interestingly if you buy a mail order part because the vendors website says it is correct and it turns out that it is not correct then it is your fault, not theirs, Read the small print. I mean, everyone reads all of the terms and conditions when they order something, don't they?
