Hey guys, I'm in urgent need of some help. Would any one in the south east Kent area be able to fit an engine on my 2.5 v6 xtype? I've had the official diagnosis on it today regarding the rattle its suffering from and its terminal. Quotes I've had for an engine change so far are around the £1000 mark. I really don't want to have to scrap the car. Thanks in advance.

Hi , does anyone here have any experience of aux drive belt tensioners going up the creak? My xtype has a really bad sounding rattle, did some investigating yesterday and found that it can be moved side to side just by pushing it with my fingers and the aux belt can be moved about 3inchs just by pulling on it a little. I'm guessing that it shouldn't do that. I'm hoping the rattle is being caused by the tensioner moving about on a slack belt.....does this sound plauseable? Has this happened to any one else?

So, 2 days ago I bought my 1st jag, a 2.5 v6 sport for an absolute bargain. The guy whom sold it to me informed me that it developed a rattle the day after changing the alternator belt and since then hasn't driven it, so I took it off his hands for a steal at £120 . From the research I have done it sounds like the cam tensioners could need adjusting or the alternator position needing adjusting. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I have driven it, albeit no exeding 40mph for about 2 miles to get it home, and everything seemed absolutely fine except the rattle. The only noticeable difference in it was linked withe the change of engine speed, which again tracks with my theory of it being related to tensioners/alternator. Please help chris
