  1. Hello all We have an issue with the clutch in the jag at the moment with it being noisey when you depress or gto depress the clutch pedal, it sounds like the thrust bearing is making a noise , so i need some help with regard to what type of clutch i can replace it with, i know it has a dualmass flywheel and clutch that goes with that , but i would like to change it for a normal flywheel if i can, but have heard that it can affect the gearbox if its changed, not sure if its fact or fiction, the jaguar in question is a 06 plate 2.2 deisel, with 6 speed box and id like to keep her runing with out any issue caused by me by putting something in it that could cause any issue, to be honest its my first jaguar and most of my other cars are pre-90s with exception of our mx5 both 92. and a couple of older fords, so the question is can i change to a normal clutch and flywheel, and where can i get it from as most of my motor factors list dualmass for the car , so need help guys. thanks J,Apps
  2. unfortunately we do not have a full history with the car, so have no way of telling whether it did or didnt, sorry by the way its Mrs Apps, not the better half. Unless the seller is a member of this forum. Then we might be able to get some answers. Other half just reminded me that we purchased through a friend of the selleras he brought the car down to us and as we knew the agent we brought the car with some history but not all.
  3. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clutch-Kit-2-part-for-JAGUAR-X-TYPE-2-2-05-09-D-LJ46G-Sachs-Genuine-Diesel-/371842082166?fits=Car+Make%3AJaguar&hash=item569383e576:g:OqQAAOSw9GhYesQ8 having got the alternator sorted, now for making this car back to its former glory, body work fantastic but has an issue with the clutch, has started making a noise when you slightly depress the clutch. will check up with Jaguar tomorrow and see if mine is already dual mass, but would you swap or stay with dual mass ?
  4. Having just replaced the alternator the clutch has been making a noise so question is is the car likely to have dualmass flywheel or normal flywheel due to having conflicting searches for clutch kits more are coming back with the CF1 engine code dont know if thats mine but it covers 2.2d from 2001-2009 and the results are normal clutch. Am i going to get a better answer by phoning jaguar direct to find out what type i am going to have by giving engine number or chassis number. I would phone up my parts suppliers but there not open till monday and even they may supply the wrong part not happene before but could as not had jaguar for long, and they did supply wright alternater and belt for around £100 with a 2 year warranty. new to the jaguar so need help as you may see by all my other posts. Thanks Julian.
  5. Here is a picture of the car returning home today after have new alternator put on by my good friend who i should of been helping but thanks to my wife and daughter who helped in my place the car is back, I could not help was home with poorly grandson, as both the girls said they were happy to help. The car needs a wash before next picture.
  6. I only have access to a Masisys ms906 sysytem which my friends brought when his other Solus failed,as i dont usually have newer cars like the jagaur my old odb reader has done all i needed although my hyundai coupe was 2003 and i did happily use my tool, but admit i dont know all scanners and what can read what car, im rebuilding older cars that dont have any computers to tell them what to do an 89 escort cabi xr3i 2 mk1 fiestas a old morris minor lucky to have indicators that flash and 2 mk1 mx5s which never need an odb reader. My old software palmer performance was on a dell latitude windows XP which failed so looking for something new and maybe the mongoose lead and software my be just what i need , as its a usb lead .thanks Joe
  7. Thanks I phoned Jaguar and they gave me the code for the radio so now once we have finished putting the new alternator old one did melt some wires due to seizing bearing i can put the code i to keep the wife and daughter happy as they get to drive the car more than i do.
  8. That will read the codes and will reset engine management but it will not turn out airbag lights so if you just want to read the codes it will be fine to be hones a code reader that can do almost everything will be a few thousand pounds for an all singing all dancing 1 you can get some for hundreds aslong as its an OBD11 or OBD you should be ok.
  9. I will have a look i did notice on the engine cover there was signs of rubbing so when it get it on the little scissor ramp we have i will look at the rear one and check the others,as well thanks for your prompt replies im in no way a fully trained mechanic but between my good friend and myself we do wrok on cars so we will have a good look over the car, and i am rebuilding 3 classic cars well 1 really classic MM and 1 mk1 fiesta, and a mk2 vauxhaul nova,
  10. will post some pics am having to fit a new alternater this week after a rather smokey failure yesterday, the wife phoning from work saying car had no ignition or and lights battery flat so charged it and a few hours later replaced and then i started it woohoo i thought, which then turned to well a little blue language due to smoke then flames from the alternator, one thing for sure so far in the few months ive we have owned the Jaguar ive been kept on my toes But yes picture will be posted but need to wash it first aswell
  11. Unfortunaley for me wednesday ( yesterday) my wife got into work to find that the car would not start flat battery suspected at first but, after a charge and re-connection the car started followed by smoke and a fire from the alternator, leading my to suspect think it was the smoke and flames that maybe the alternater was at fault, so not a mechanical question how do i get the radio code for the car once the alternater is replaced, should be tomorrow as we do not have the card with the code in the books or paperwork., do we have to talk to a jaguar dealer or take the thing out to find part number to goole the code. thanks in advance guys.
  12. 2.2dse 6 speed manual and it only makes the noise when you put you let your foot of when first pulling away from stand still or when reversing so only when releasing the pedal to engage the clutch fully, and not heard when just changing gears. So just when first pulling away and at no other time and no vibration is felt .
  13. Ok i have noticed that the wifes car makes a noise when first pulling away ( she was oblivious to it ) bless, so gentlemen should i take the gearbox off just to look option 1 let it be till it eventually get louder option 2 Option 3 replace complete clutch and thrust bearing dont know if its a dual mass flywheel, having never owned 1 before, but with my good friend and his ramp we are able to fix it It only makes the noise on pulling away and goes through the gears great and does not slip when i let my right heavy foot relax when slow cars are in front , yes to my shame i have to see how the car overtakes the slower cars, not owned it long enought to be bored with it. so hoping its the cheaper non dualmass flywheel and because they are a pain im thinking option 2 although my mechanical side say change it save more work, oh yeah 1 more option jst change the thrust bearing and look at the wear on clutch. car will be going on holiday soon to bognor and i will follow up later in my little car, will say what it is and put up with the well thats a hair dressers car Mk1 mx5 or as the yanks call them miata.
