  1. Different seals used in petrol and diesel fuel systems. As the car has been driven needs checking that seals etc are OK.

Fuel spitting back as you fueled means that the petrol nozzle had triggered the safety flap to try to stop petrol being put in to the tank.

  2. The XF does not like having the battery disconnected. When these problems occur Jaguars solution is to replace both the Front and Central Junction Boxes and reprogram - cost over £1k. Find a garage with Autologic software and they will reprogram without changing the JBs normally for under £100.

If you change the battery always connect a slave battery with wires to the clamps so that the car never loses power.

  3. My VX Insignia was top of the range and had front sensors and camera as standard. My XF Portfolio gad these but they were an optional extra! I only have facelift brochures. Go on to eBay and buy sales brochure and price list for the pre-facelift, these will show what is standard and what is an option.

At the bottom of adverts there is normally a statement that the spec of the vehicle has been filled in using a third market database and exact specifications should be ascertained from the dealer.........which is !Removed! annoying.

the only slight reservation I have is that the car comes with 20” wheels which may mean the ride will be harsh or noisy.

Prior to buying the XF I had a Vauxhall Insignia on 20" wheels. The test drive seemed OK but once driving it regularly I did not like the ride and fitted smaller diameter wheels.

That was replaced with a 2013 XFS Portfolio Sportbrake once again on 20" wheels. However, was quite happy with the ride so you should not have any problems with the ride.

Good choice going for the Portfolio as there are some nice extras - though I am unsure exactly what extras on the pre-facelift as I had a post-facelift.....mind you I was quite surprised what were optional extras that on other makes would have been standard on top of the range models.

No, I don't think so Paul. I enjoyed both my 75s, especially the auto. It might be significant that several people with Jaguars seem to have progressed on to them from the 75.

oh, do not get me wrong, I enjoyed both of mine, a manual that I drove for 130k miles in 5 years and an auto that I drove for 90k miles in 5 years also. However, cars have moved on since the 75 was designed and the 75 was not helped by the cost cutting measures during production. Perhaps, it is the fact that car design has moved on over the years. And yes, the 75 was well regarded in its day and perhaps moving on to a Jag is a logical progression. Getting back in to a 75, at least for me, cannot stop me from making comparisons with the XF. For one thing, the 75 CDTi is fly be wire but the spring on the accelerator pedal is very strong which means a lot harder to push down and keep down.

Paul have you driven a 75 lately?

  6. Changed the XF for a MB E Class cabriolet, obviously, a very different beast and the XF would have cost half as much again as the MB. 2.1 litre engine rougher than the XF 3.0 but have not driven an XF 2.2 which is said to be a bit rough. The MB has a footbrake for a handbrake, sorely miss the electric handbrake. Obviously, less poke than the XFS. BUT very nice to get the top down.

Here's one for Raistlin...Need to collect some stuff from SW France. Now the OH has an MB SLK so even less room.So bought a cheap Rover 75 CDTi estate. Comfy seats, bullet proof engine, nice to see a bit of wood even if it is plastic. Perhaps, the memories were better than the reality.

Others can jump in here, but 272bhp is a v6 3litre engine, the other two from this year are 2.2 liters from memory.

If you put your reg into the dvla site it should tell you the displacement.

    The non S 3 litre was 240bhp
