  1. Unfortunately I find myself unable to become a a genuine member of the Jaguar owners club at this moment in time as today I incurred close to a £1.000 bill to get my X Trail through it's MOT. I wouldn't mind but the car isn't even worth £1,000. I knew it was going to fail, but hadn't anticipated it was going to do so, so spectacularly. There's also an advisory which, when in comes to be, is going to cost me another fortune. Furthermore, I learned that it is also locked in permanent 4 wheel drive and as far as I'm concerned, it can ruddy well to stay that way. Anyway, I can't justify pulling out more money just yet for a Jag. Woe is me. On the upside. I'm glad I held back on buying the one I test drove last week. So for the next 12 months I'm going to run the X Trail and look for a X Type after that. I'm sure there'll still be a good number for sale. OK people. Enjoy your cars and drive safe. See you next year. Best wishes. Steve.
  2. Cheers guys. Appreciate your help. Joe, It will be an X Type 2.2 D. Steve.
  3. Most of my driving is short trips so I'm becoming a bit concerned about keeping the DPF clean once I actually own a Jag that is. I've seen it mentioned that a 20/30 min run is required about once a week at around a steady 60 mph. Does this need to be a continuous run. I ask as I go up to town once a week. This trip takes in a quiet B road where I can usually maintain 50/60 mph then a run up the A1 for aprox 10 mins, again usually keeping close to 60 mph. Overall it takes around 25 mins for the journey. Now for the dumb bit. How would having to stop at a couple of roundabouts affect the cleaning i.e.. would it, or wouldn't it? Also, an I right in thinking that when it comes to an oil change to use no more than 5 ½ Lts? Steve.
  4. Hi Joe, My first thought would be to clean and paint the springs. I could replace the discs myself, but as you get older (63) I tend to like someone else doing them for me. Now I know I'm missing something here, but, brake disc's and waxoyl? It only mentions slight rust on the sill's so I'm thinking a wire brush and converter/paint job would sort it. By sill covers I presume you mean the silver strips fixed to the bottom of the door frame. Do they just pop out? Called the dealer though and the oil leak has been fixed. Regards. Steve.
  5. Good morning people, Been checking out MOT advisories on a couple of X Types. One I was very interested in shows up this. Test date 24/Oct/2016. Advisory notice item(s) Oil leak () Exhaust system corroded brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i) Offside Front coil spring corroded (2.4.C.1b) Offside Rear coil spring corroded (2.4.C.1b) Nearside Rear coil spring corroded (2.4.C.1b) Offside Rear Lower Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement outer (2.4.G.2) Vehicle structure has slight corrosion both sills (6.1.B.2). The two main concerns as I see it are the oil leak and the sills, and, to a lesser degree, possibly the exhaust system. The car comes with an AA inspection report (not yet seen by me). Now, either the oil leak will be on the report, or it will have been fixed as I wouldn't expect a reputable dealer to sell a car with a known oil leak. Any thoughts? Also, the suspension bush. Any idea as to the cost of replacement. Obviously I'd get both replaced when the time came using my local garage. Steve.
  6. Hi Peter, Been doing more reading up on the S Type, and too be honest it's probably more car than I need if that makes any sense. Other factors I have to consider when compared to the X Type are tax, insurance and mpg. The restricted rear leg room isn't an issue as I'll never sit there - ha ha. No, actually I rarely if ever have back-seat passengers. And on a purely personal level, I prefer the front end look of the X Type. If the black one I mentioned is as good as it sounds, then I'll probably give it a new home. I'll let you know and post some pictures when I get it. Cheers. Steve.
  7. Hi Peter, thanks for your replies, and to answer your question, I'm from Berwick-upon-Tweed. Now, here's another possibility. 2008 2.2 X Type SE Auto in black. 89,000 on the clock, 2 owners. AA inspection report. Complete main/independent recorded service every 12,000ml. 6 mth warranty. MOT Oct 2017. This is advertised at £5,750. Quick call to the dealer and got him down to £5,300. Obviously £300 dearer than the one I drove yesterday, but almost 25,000 less on the clock with an impeccable service history. Got to be worth it? Anyway, I'm off to view it this weekend. However, my thoughts have been wandering in the direction of an S Type as an alternative. Oh the dilemma. Thoughts of your own as an S Type owner would be welcome. Regards. Steve.
  8. Hi again Peter, Well I went to see the car and to be honest, I really couldn't see anything that I could haggle about. The interior is in very good condition although the leather would benefit from a little feeding. There was the odd minor scuff, but nothing you wouldn't expect to see on a 9yr old car. I was surprised to find the drivers seat still firm considering someone's backside had been sat in it for 113,000 miles. The boot lining was very clean, too. Outside there was one small fingernail size dent near to the rear door handle. The paint wasn't cracked though. No other signs of paint work damage including stone chips to the bonnet. Out on the test drive, including some motorway, it picked up its feet and I could barely notice the gears changing up/down. No lag when pulling out from junctions. Breaks were good. Ride smooth although slightly firmer than I expected. One bad point was that the cruise control didn't work, but the dealer said that it would be sorted before the car goes out. So no worries there. All told it seems to be a great car. I loved the colour, too. Sort of a dark grey, but with a distinct purple tinge to it. Didn't commit to buying it there and then and no pressure put on me to do so either, but going to call the dealer tomorrow and tell him to get it ready. Steve.
  9. Cheers Peter, I'm off to look at the car this afternoon. Asking price is £4,995? Not sure if that is a fair price for a car with this kind of mileage, but it is a top spec. Let you know how I get on when I return home. Steve.
  10. I too had a Rover 75 2.2 Auto Tourer. Beautiful car, had to let it go though as I needed some cash. Second best car I had after a Citroen XM 2.2 Auto. Two vastly underrated cars in my opinion. Now looking forward to my first X Type Jag. Going off what I've read, yet another underrated car. Suits me as it keeps the prices down.
  11. Hi Boys and Girls, What a great site this is. Just discovered it and you seem like a real friendly crowd. Don't yet own a Jaguar but hope to put that right within the next week. Probably go for an X Type 2008 model. Got my eye on a couple and hope to take a look at them in the next couple of days. One is a 2.2 D Auto Sovereign on an 08 plate. FSH and comes with 12mths warranty. 12 mths AA cover. Full service and MOT. Downside - 113,000 on the clock. High mileage diesels have never really bothered me (once owned a Citroen XM with 174,000 on it and it was sweet as a nut. Also drove another XM with a staggering 304,000 on it and you would never have known). However, would appreciate your thoughts on high mileage X Type's. But all things considered, by this time next week I'll hopefully own my first Jag. Can't wait. .
