  1. Hi Charlie_Brown & welcome to the forum Have you tried using a mild cutting compound & a decent carnauba wax polish as it could work out a lot cheaper (& easier) than re spraying patches. The standard of paint used these days means that it's unusual for it to fade to a point that would need re spraying especially as the whole car would have been subject to the same weather conditions all over etc. It's worth exploring the cheaper alternatives first Good luck with whatever you decide & keep us updated with your progress Cheers Dean
  2. Well here's an update regarding my S Type: I got my local Jaguar dealer (Carrs of Truro) to replace the wheel sensor & to clear the fault message & touch wood it's solved the problem. As far as the other issues are concerned, I took the car to my local independent garage (Claude Holman Cars) & they changed the hub, bearing etc & also fitted my Stainless Steel exhaust tips all for the sum of £197 including VAT, I am not going to replace the power steering pump until the MOT is due. I got them to check the underside of the car & am happy to report that shes as clean as a pin :D
  3. Well here's the good news... Following a day at my local Jaguar specialist, no more ABS warning lights or traction control fault messages :D And the not so good news... Following a visual health check, the resulting report states that: 1. The OSF wheel bearing needs replacing 2. The power steering pump is leaking & will need replacing 3. Both rear lower wishbone arms have split bushes so will need replacing. Ah well they say everything comes in threes & I suppose it could have been far worse
  4. Hi Roberto, Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately (or fortunately) I have sold that Jag, I told the new owner about the problem & left it up to him to find a solution Thanks again for the suggestion, at least I will have another option should the problem occur with my current S Type :)
  5. Thanks Geoff, That's what I figured also I won't have the hassle of having to book it in to 2 different garages & if the fault returns who do you go to! Rather bizarrely I went out in the car yesterday & the fault message on the dash cleared itself along with the ABS light, when I got home I switched the engine off, left it for a while re started it & the message returned so have still decided to have the work done just to be on the safe side
  6. I've just asked the question on a couple of Jag Facebook sites & the replies are very favourable :) There is also an interesting short video of Ed China (Wheeler Dealers) carrying out a Terraclean on an XK8 Heres the link: http://www.terraclean.co.uk/video.html
  7. That's it... I have booked the car into Jaguar Tuesday 09:30 On reflection of all the advice given to me I decided that although it was the most expensive option, it was the option that would give me peace of mind that I would be getting the genuine parts fitted by specialist technicians Thanks to all of you that offered me much valued opinions, it really does help :)
  8. Hi Geoff My local independent garage has a good reputation & has just taken on a mechanic that has 20 years experience with Jaguar It looks like I may have to order the part from Jaguar, get my local to fit it then take it to Jaguar to get the fault message cancelled, it seems which ever way I go it's not going to be cheap. I'll be sure to keep you posted ;)
  9. Right here's the News, following lots of great advice from the various forums & Jaguar enthusiasts I took the bull by the horns & took her to my local Jaguar dealership (Carrs of Truro), They have diagnosed the fault to be with the OSF wheel speed sensor & have advised that I get a new one fitted, they charged me the minimum half hour labour charge of £47.50 + £9.50 VAT & have quoted me £223.63 to supply & fit a replacement sensor (including VAT) :o I posted the results on the relevant facebook sites (JDC Modern S-Type & Jaguar Technical Aid Resources) & received lots of good advice from the guys concerned. :) I guess I'm going to have to book her into Carrs & get the work done, there are cheaper alternatives but the general consensus of opinion is, that for peace of mind it's better to buy genuine Jaguar parts & have them fitted by a genuine Jaguar fitter... what say you folk??
  10. Hi Steve & thanks for the advice, I did try that after Geoff suggested it may be the brakes binding & there was no excessive heat or brake dust on the wheels. My mobile fitter didn't have the diagnostic software either so have got it booked in to the garage on Thursday so fingers crossed that they will be able to provide an answer & hopefully a cheap solution I will update the thread once I have the answer ;) Thanks again for your help it really is nice to know you folks are out there.
  11. Thanks Geoff, I have checked the rear brakes & they appear to be fine, I have contacted a mobile fitter & he is going to check to see if his diagnostic softwear will read the Jaguar codes..fingers crossed & will post an update once I have the answer. Thanks again my friend Dean
  12. I don't know if any of you guys can offer me some much needed advice, I have a warning message coming up on my dash saying "Traction Control Fault" the ABS light has also come on. Does anyone know what this might mean or should I take it to my local Jaguar dealership & get them to look at it? Thanks in anticipation
  13. Nice job, The darker grill etc does look nice on the cars with the darker paintwork I have gone the other way and added chrome, ie the grill, light surrounds, mirrors, door pillars, washer jets, door handles, badges..etc I get a lot of positive comments from all ages
  14. Hi Peter I did check that as, like you I have tried to load a disc upside down in my pc!! The CD player was working fine, all 6 discs loaded & played perfectly then after briefly listening to the radio I pressed the button to select the CD player & the message "No CD Found" came up on the display. The radio still works fine...just no CD!! Thanks for the suggestion tho...
  15. Thanks Nick I have checked the disc & its a proper CD so I can rule that one out :( I really appreciate the suggestion Looks like I may have to bite the bullet & pay a visit to my local Jaguar dealership!!!
  16. Can anyone offer some advice When I press the button to select the CD player it just sends the message saying No CD Found I have checked the unit in the boot & it contains CD's & they load from the cartridge into the machine ok so there is power going to the changer The radio works fine just not the CD!! My car is a 1999 S type
