  1. Hello everybody. Sorry, but here is another parking aid sensor topic! Hope someone can help me. I have a problem with my rear parking aid sensors on my 54 plate X-Type 2.5lt SE Auto. I've tested all 4 sensors, and when you get up close to them, with the ignition set to the on position and reverse gear selected, they are all making a very rapid clicking noise, with the same strength of sound on each. Is this indicating that they are working okay, or not working? Does the speed of the clicking determine if they are working or not? When I'm out and about, everytime reverse gear is selected, there is a rapid bleeping from the speaker, that doesn't stop, even a long continuous beep at times. Sometimes it is even intermittent with no rhythm to it. All this happens everytime I select reverse, whether there is anything behind the car or not. Can someone please give me some idea as to what is wrong. Is it the main control module in the boot that's faulty? Could the wiring loom have a fault somewhere?
  2. Hi John. Thanks for that. Aha, I've had a look there, and there also seems to be a screw/bolt attaching the bumper to a bracket on each side where it wraps round. It looks awkward to get at, as the exhaust tail pipe is very close (twin exhaust on my 2.5lt). May need a 90 degree cross head screw driver to get in to it, if there is such a device!?
  3. Hi everybody. Can anyone tell me the best way of taking off the black panel under the rear bumper, that has the parking sensors on it. I have a 54 plate 2.5lt V6 SE auto, and I need to check the sensors and wiring, as they have started going off at random times as soon as reverse is selected, even if there is nothing behind the car! I've taken the 3 plastic rivet type fasteners off, but there still seems to be something else holding it in place with the main bumper. From what I can see, there seems to be some flat pins fixing it to the bumper. Does the black panel just prize off these? I don't want to force anything incase of damage. I hope I don't have to take the whole of the bumper off! Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  4. Hi all. I want to replace the air conditioning aspirator sensor on my 2004 X-Type 2.5 SE Auto. The existing one is quite noisy. It looks like I need to drop the lower dashboard panel that's located just below the steering column, to gain access to the part. It has 2 security 'torx' type screws/bolts (I have the necessary tool), but it also has 'AIRBAG' labelled on the moulded panel. The screws are incredibly tight. Are they supposed to be undone by a DIYer? If I manage to undo these and drop down the panel, will it upset any settings on the airbag system? Thanks in advance for any help.
  5. Hi, I'm Brian, and have just bought my first X Type, 54 plate 2.5 SE auto (retirement pressy to myself!). Wow, a Jag. Just the name sounds good. Actually I've already posted a question on the X Type forum about the smoothness of the auto gearbox - it's a bit 'lumpy'! If you can help, have a look. Cheers.
  6. I have recently bought a 2004 (54 plate) 2.5 SE auto saloon, and have read (albeit on another U.S. forum, dated 2002) about a software upgrade to the engine/gearbox management system, from Version 16 to Version 20. Apparently this produces a much smoother shift between gears, and slightly increased performance. My car certainly seems to have 'strange' shift points, with slow pick-up, almost feeling like a manual change at times, it's so rough. For instance, when I'm decelerating and reach 15mph, the gearbox noticeably changes down, and it almost feels like I've momentarily applied the breaks, it's that jerky! Is anyone familiar with this upgrade? Is it still available? Would Jag main dealers know what I was talking about if I discussed it with them? Thanks for any comments....
