  1. June 8th - France. Well Jaguar were wrong and my XK must have levers as the car has just failed the Controlle Technique (MOT) here in France that I need to change the registration to France. So G2EOF is spot on, I will now investigate the lever situation and hopefully return to the test station for a pass!! Thanks for the comments and advice.
  2. I have just ordered a CD service disc that will have this information but in the meantime can anyone confirm the location of the AIR filter / filters on my 2011 XK. I think they are located in the wheel arches and you have to remove the liner to access. Do I have one filter or two on the 5 litre engine.
  3. Thanks for the reply RobXK, appreciated. I managed to get to the bottom of this but lost one chrome badges in the process. I now know that each badge (item 5 on the diagram) is locked in place with 4 plastic studs that press into holes in the bodywork and fit into small slots on the back of each badge (chromed plastic). Its not possible to see these studs on the parts diagram and even Bennets could not tell me if the new chrome badge came with studs. Removing the badge without damaging either the stud or the plastic slot on the badge is virtually impossible even with the greatest of care. I did however manage to save one badge and 4 of the 8 studs but had to buy one new badge which came with 4 new studs. The badge costs just under a whopping £90. I was having the lower side skirts and wings painted (black metallic midnight) to remove gravel rash hence the removal. The painter removed the side skirts to repaint and made a fantastic job overall, looks like new or better.
  4. Hi Chris My 2011 XK has no brake disc shields on the front, I am sure no shields are fitted from new as I have a one owner car with less than 36000 miles on the clock. I recently gave my brakes and underbody a major dose of TLC and as someone with an extensive background in automobile engineering noted that shields were only fitted to the back. Its also worth noting that the shields are riveted onto the bearing mount so cannot be removed easily.
  5. Has anyone removed and refitted the chrome front wing Jaguar part as shown in part 5 below? It is not at all clear from the parts diagram how this chrome part attaches to the base. The base is fitted to the bodywork via screws illustrated but is the rectangular shape on the left hand end of the base an adhesive pad ?? In order to remove the chrome part I need this information.
  6. I would like to remove and replace the two long Jaguar chrome features on the front wings of my 2011 XK they are just above the small grille on both wings. I presume they are fixed on the back, anyone had experience of removing these?
  7. Recently bought my XK. Just had all my liners out/off as C19 has given me an opportunity to give my XK some extra TLC. They come out very easily with the screw fixings. as you may know they are in two sections on the front but the rear liners seem like one section as are connected together with very heavy staples. I pressure washed mine while I had them out. The front liners are in two parts, as mentioned with the front half overlapping the back section. I had a little what you described as droop on one of the front sections and yes it could just be seen below the wheel arch after refitting. I have fitted a small thin stainless steel plate to one half of the liner, fixed to the liner with 3 pop rivets at the joint so it supports the other half. The liners appear to be a good quality and behind was in great condition. I have cleaned and treated all the chassis steelwork and alloy parts with Bilt Hamber wax protection which is great stuff. Cleaned and painted the calipers also. Jag main dealers appear to be little better than others as no copper slip or similar had been used when the car was last in for new discs and pads on rear consequently wheels binding to back plate with rust. Just finished last wheel - looks great!
  8. I have some minor surface under paint corrosion (Black car) on two places on my 2011 XK. I have extensive experience re steel bodies but can anyone offer some extra guidance when sorting this problem on an alloy bodied car. I presume its necessary to clean off and gently rub down the small area that is affected, under normal circumstances I would then treat this with chemical degreasing agent, paint with etching primer then paint / lacquer. The area is about 15mm square on a bodywork corner directly behind the front wheels on both sides. I have removed the liner and the back is 100 percent solid so its definitely caused by stone rash and then alloy corrosion. Any guidance appreciated.
  9. A guy in Lichfield appears to do a great job and at excellent prices. If his sample wheels are anything to go by you will get a great job. I paid him a visit a few weeks ago as he powder coated some parts for my motorcycle, that was also excellent. I intend having my 2011 XK wheels done once this C19 problem is settled - I think he is called Rims and Things. He is on the small industrial estate beside the railway station (Trent Valley).
  10. Due to sign in problems I have changed my sign in from XK John to XKJon. I have what appears to be minor under paint blistering in a small number of places on my recently acquired 2011 XK convertible no doubt caused by aluminium corrosion under the paintwork. I have extensive experience dealing with this on steel bodied cars but no experience of treating alloy bodied cars in order to halt this problem. I intend to undertake a major underbody protective programme whilst the vehicle is not being used during this corona virus crisis. I have a range of high quality treatments and etching primers from Bilt Hamber but would greatly appreciate any advice and guidance.
