Hello All, I had a similar experience the first time I changed the belt, Jag in bits, a mate running me back to the Motor Factor, armed with the original and the incorrect one supplied, only for them to admit defeat and give me my money back. I did manage to get one eventually the first time round, but this time (after the tensioner incident), the same supplier drew a blank. I called the local Jaguar dealer and explained the problem - they ordered the belt that their system says is fitted to my car. I visited Hatfields Jaguar to collect the new belt this afternoon. . Twice the price of course, but sure enough, its the correct longer one. Its approx 2.75m long The part number on the invoice for the correct belt - AJ8 4136 - if you reference this back online it points to a 6PK2275 belt, (2.27m long) which is too short for the car. So, it seems that this is where the error lies. Cheers, Gareth.
  2. Hi everyone, The the other week I broken down with my 2002 3.0V6 S type, when the serpentine drive belt came off. The fault turned out to be a worn tensioner, so this was replaced, which has solved the problem. Of course its good practice to change the belt at the same time, but this has flagged up an unexpected problem. The belt that all the motor factors say that's fitted to my car is part number 6PK2270, but the one that's on my car is 6PK2748. They can't understand why my car has this, and they are struggling to get it. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks in advance, Gareth.
  3. Hi David, The 'gearbox fault' light could indicate a variety of faults, but yours doesn't sound to be too serious at this stage. With my car, the gearbox fault would come one after running around 3 miles, or less, then it would loose drive, and would only go back in after it had cooled down. The problem with mine was that I think the previous owner had continued to drive until it broke completely, instead of acting on the first signs of a problem. In the end, my car went to S and D Transmissions in Doncaster, where it has had a full gearbox rebuild. The overdrive was completely cooked. The car is superb now! At the time my car had done 78k, and was otherwise is great condition. I appreciate Doncaster is a bit too far for you to take your car! Cheers, Gareth.
  4. Very interesting, and scary at the same time! Although my 2002 S type has just past its MOT last week, I will have my covers off also. The MOT tester said that it was in good shape, but then yours looked OK. Thanks for posting.

  6. Thanks for the replies everyone. That pretty much seals it then - its the torque converter. We had another look at it today. There's also a noise which sounds a bit like a dry bearing coming from the transmission tunnel area. When the drive is selected the noise alters in tone and sometimes disappears. Its louder when the transmission is in Park. Going to get another box for it. Its a decent car otherwise. Will let you know when its fixed. Cheers,
  7. Hello, Well, I have changed the transmission oil on my car, checked for the correct level etc. The test drive didn't get very far until the transmission started slipping and losing drive again. Initially it was great and went down hill quickly - within a mile. The symptoms that it gives are what you would get if the transmission fluid was low - but its not. You lose drive and when stationary, give a few revs and it will grab and go a few yards before losing drive again. The old fluid was clean and didn't smell burnt. I am now thinking that a replacement 'box is the solution. Do you agree? Thanks,

  9. Hi Everyone. I have a 2002 S-Type 3.0 Auto. The car is mint, with 77000 miles on it. When the engine is cold, the transmission works as it should. After about 3 miles or so, it will then start to slip, before losing drive completely. After this as happened, if the selector is moved into and out of drive a few times, it will eventually go into drive again, but will drop out again after only a few hundred yards. I am thinking that first thing to do is to change the fluid in the box. Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Gareth
