  1. Nice to see fenn motor works will give you advice over the phone, instead of the usual just bring it in sometime. It's hard to find a garage that will speak about your problems on the phone it's as if they need to be plugged into the computer along side of the car before they can say anything

We give advice over the phone all the time, recently a call from Australia. I think you will find that most indies will do that. There are obviously times when a diagnosis cannot be done over the phone and it does need to be put on the diagnostic kit to find the correct solution.

  2. For anyone in the Hampshire/Berkshire/Oxfordshire area we run a monthly meeting for the XKEC club at the Hare and Hounds Hotel in Speen nr Newbury. Bath Rd, Speen, Newbury, West Berkshire RG14 1QY  It takes place on the last Thursday of every month at 8pm. We are always happy to see Jaguar owners whatever model they have.

Everyone is welcome, just ask at the Bar for the rowdy Jaguar lot and they will point you in the right direction.

  3. Hi, I'm a newbie here. This is my first post.

Just got a 2004 XKR. Before  I bought it I did the normal checks and a couple of 10 minute test drives. Everything seems good, Except 10 mins in a recaro seat is very comfortable but 45mins or more starts to get quite uncomfortable and bits of seat frame seem to push in from all angles.

I have to admit though as a, shall we say, big boned, person the seat probably wasn't designed with me in mind

    So a couple of question.

Is it easy enough to swap out the seats to the standard XK seat, if I can find some in the right colour?

Could a seat upholsterer change the frame shape in the seat?

Any info or help would be great, thanks in advance

The seats are easy enough to swap over. We have done it many times either changing the very early all in one seats to headrest ones or replacing seats with Recaros. Kevin tried a set of Recaros in our XK and they were just not right for us.

Try some breakers i.e Black Country Jaguar, Jagslags or Eurojag to see if they have anything. If they are cheap enough you can get any colour and have them releathered. We have a guy who does all ours for us at around £400 a seat.

  4. Peter,

Their site is under maintenance at the moment, tried for the link earlier .

If I could find a way to copy the discs I would do. I have the software, but there are two discs and they are 7.5 gig each, don;t know where to get the discs from as normal DVD discs are only 4.4 gig

Otherwise I would do a copy for them.

But the last last update being 2003 must be incorrect, as you and I have 2012-2013 discs. And i'm sure the new F Type, and all new jags will have an up to date system.

P.S., of for a bimble down to Penzance today, would you like a stick of rock?

I think you will find they are different systems in the X150 and F-type. The next time one of our X150 customers comes in we will try to see if it works on a X100.

p.s if your trip takes you down the A303 I'll have a stick of rock :)

  5. hi,

I have done 3k miles since getting my 1997 xk8 convertible, London-Croatia-Munich mostly motorway.

I have had 3 instantances where the Failsafe Engine Mode light has come on. At first big panic, pull over turn off, open bonnett look for anything obvious nothing. Restart all clear carry on nervously no problem. 2 weeks later happens again this time unable to pull over straightaway, carring on with no obvious problem eventually stop check everything again all seems ok start off cleared drives well. Got home checked all fluid levels ok. Bought one of those BT odb2 dongles and torque pro to see if there were any fault codes, none. Heading back to London via Munich and it happens again, have the torqure running monitoring coolant temp and that still showed no fault code. Had to keep going another 150 miles to Munich car drove like a dream......Any ideas will I have to take it to a dealer when back in London.

    cheers

Find your local indie with a Jaguar diagnostic kit and get codes read. If you are in South London I would recommend J&DS Autos in Penge or the Jag Workshop in west London. I know both of them have the proper kit and can give you really good advice on what is happening.

  6. We currently run a regualar monthly meeting for XK8 / XKR owners at the Hare and Hounds in Speen. The hotel is located just south of the M4 Newbury junction. We hold the meeting on the last Thursday of every month at 8pm.

If you are interested in coming along let us know on info@designxkr.co.uk

  7. We are often contacted by Jaguar owners, particularly those with XK8s or XKRs, with issues regarding sourcing new Pirelli and Dunlop tyres. We have now been able to find a source of good quality part worn tyres.

All tyres are pressure checked and tested and they have between 5 and 6mm of tread left on the tyre.

The cost is £70.00 per tyre and can be fitted in our workshop in Andover. They can be shipped out at extra cost.

If the car is still under warranty you should take it back to the dealer. There is no way a seat should tear unless something has caught in the leather.

Should they not agree to a repair we have a very good chap that does all our releathering who could repair it.

  9. Hi! I'm hoping you're exactly the person I need............

I'm planning on buying an XKR Convertible in the next couple of months around 2002-2003 model and just need some advice as to what to watch out for. There seem to be hundreds out there to buy but also a few horror stories! I'm looking at spending approx £15k. I've seen some posts on forums about rust, leaky roofs etc but just need some clarification on what to look out for when buying. Do I buy privately or from a jag dealer and spend the extra money etc?

Your website looks very interesting and obviously you have many contacts in the trade that might be selling cars.

    Any help very much appreciated

    Thanks
