  1. Haha….I can imagine we will have a challenging relationship over the next few years! But the history of the car sold it to me, for my needs as a motorway mile muncher, with the occasional B road excursion I don’t think I could have found better. Look out for my next post…..”How do I fix this…..?” Ha
  2. Thanks. It was a new engine, supplied and fitted by Jaguar dealer with invoice to prove it, they paid 50% in goodwill as the original engine went bang at 70k miles and it had been serviced by them every year (No6 cylinder, no compression) In fact, I have every invoice for the life of the car, 95% of the work was carried out by Jaguar main dealers.
  3. Update: I’m now the proud owner of a 2011 XFS 3.0d PL with dynamic pack. One owner from new with all servicing and repairs carried out by Jaguar, including a new engine in 2016! So a 125k ml car with a 55k mile engine. I’ve had it for 3 days now, the only issue I have had is a one-time red restricted performance message under heavy acceleration. It cleared after a shut down and restart. So today I spent a good amount of time doing laps on the dual carriageway testing the rev range! Message didn’t return, so I’m hoping it was just a sticky valve as I know the car has spent the past 5 months with a car dealer tootling around town off boost. I will keep pressing it for a few days to make sure, as I have 30 days to return to the dealer to resolve if need be. Out of interest, with the new engine installed in 2016, is it likely to have any improved components ? (Eg. Inlet manifolds etc). Thanks
  4. Hi All, I am going to see a 61 plate (pre-facelift) XF S 3.0d today with a view to buying if all is well. Total mileage on the car is 125000, 1 owner with all service and repairs carried out by jaguar. The engine was replaced by jaguar in 2016, so the new engine has approx 70000 miles on it and the timing belts have already been changed (I think the owner went off the odometer reading as opposed to actual engine mileage). Anyway, does anyone know if the replacement engine in 2016 would have been any different to the 2011 engine? In terms of improved components for common failure points(eg inlet manifolds etc). After reading a lot about alternator failures, does a new alternator come as part of an engine change? I am slightly concerned that the replacement engine is approaching the kind of miles (70k) where it starts to suffer faults. Is there anything in particular I should look out for? On my list so far is: Check all the door locks, Check for water ingress in boot, Check all electrics work. Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks. I have another 3 in mind now, just awaiting feedback from the sellers.
  6. It happens, the problem I have living in the Lake District is that there aren’t any XF’s at all to look at, certainly not in my budget. Trying to buy remotely is tough as it will involve a long and expensive train journey to see a vehicle, so I have to rely somewhat on the honesty of the seller. I will find one though!
  7. Thanks. Good to know that 20” wheels are an acceptable ride.
  8. Well, back to square one in my search. The dealer (reputable) had relied on autotrader auto-populating the advert which turned out to be incorrect. I was able to get hold of the build sheet and surprisingly even though it is a portfolio model it is missing a reverse camera and front parking sensors. The camera isn’t a deal breaker but the front sensors are. My good lady will be driving the car at times and unfortunately she has ‘history’ with parking. The car also had several stone chips on the bonnet which I was happy to live with but there’s no point in compromising on spec too much when there are plenty of other cars out there. The search continues….
  9. Thanks all. Dealer has confirmed that they are removable blinds. I’ve managed to get hold of the build sheet and they weren’t spec’d from new so must be aftermarket.
  10. Hi All, I am awaiting delivery of a 2010 portfolio and was just looking at the images and video sent by the dealer. I hadn’t paid too much attention to the rear windows but I can see they are much darker than the front. Was this an option from the factory or is it likely to have been carried out by a previous owner? I’ve asked them to send me some more pics but on the video it looks like the tint is dotted if that makes sense?
  11. Thanks Darren, that’s good to know. I am hoping that it will be a quiet and effortless motorway machine. After a 3 hour drive to work in my TT I feel like I’ve already done a days work!
  12. Thanks Julie. Very much looking forward to having her delivered next week.
  13. Here it is. It’s not my favourite colour in the range but purchased on condition and dealer reputation. Charcoal black interior, I did consider a light interior as it does look nicer but my current car has an ivory interior and it has been a night mare to keep clean with some permanent staining now which I can’t get rid of. I think the black will wear better in an older vehicle.
  14. Well, I’ve paid for a car today, won’t see it in the flesh until later in the week, subject to a satisfactory MOT result. I decided on a 2010 3lt Diesel portfolio model, 123k miles, FSH, cam belts and water pump replaced at 90k. Only issue is some stone chips on the bonnet which aren’t too bad from the pics and allowed me to negotiate a discount. The Luxury model I originally wanted is also a very good car but the extras on the portfolio won me over. This is the first time I have ever bought a car without seeing it in the flesh and bizarrely I haven’t even sat in an XF ! From the reviews and videos I have seen, it seems to fit my needs as a long distance cruiser, the only slight reservation I have is that the car comes with 20” wheels which may mean the ride will be harsh or noisy. Coming from a TT, it will likely feel like a magic carpet ride in any case. I look forward to being engaged in the forum as my ownership progresses.
  15. That’s good enough. I am currently averaging less than that in my Audi TT!!
  16. I am currently researching a couple of potential XF purchases , a 2009 and a 2010 model. The seller has provided me with the VIN numbers. I have registered as an independent on the topix website but when I perform a search using the VIN numbers it identifies the vehicle correctly but does not provide any detail on the options/spec. Any ideas on how I can access these details? Is it via a subscription? Thanks
  17. I will be doing at least 4 round trips of 270 miles each month on the motorway, so hoping for a 40mpg+
  18. Interesting. Do you have any more details please?
  19. That’s an interesting site. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been attracted to the previous cat as the dealer offers free nationwide delivery and has great reviews for sorting any issues. but there are some great cars in my price range on this site!
  20. Hello i am about to jump into Jaguar ownership with a 2009 XF 3lt diesel. Living in the Lake District I cannot find any cars locally so I haven’t even sat in a Jag yet! I am looking for a motorway car that is a nice place to sit for 15k/year and won’t leave me feeling like I’ve done a full days work after a long drive, which my current Audi TT does! i have been looking at an XF in premium luxury spec, my best budget is £5000. I have come across a 2009 basic luxury spec, it is high mileage, 140k. But it is a one owner vehicle with full jaguar service history and the cam belts have been changed. Out of all the cars I have seen at this price point, this is the only 1 owner, dealer history car I have come across. I am willing to go for the more basic spec just on history alone. I just thought that I would canvas opinion on whether I could expect this cat to run for another 60k miles? also, does the basic luxury spec have a heated front screen? I know that I’ll have smaller wheels and a less good sound system but that doesn’t bother me. Am I missing anything else by going with a Lux spec? thanks
