  1. Hi all, I have a problem! I have been slowly losing coolant and the level in my expansion resivoir is very slowly but surely dropping. I had a good look with a torch today and can see with difficulty the bottom front of the engine and part of the plastic floor pan have coolant on them. Oh dear! I'm now wandering if the gasket of the coolant pump has gone or the pump itself. Come to think about it, about a month ago there was a few days where every now and then I could hear a metallic whining sound but because it dissappeared as quickly as it came on, I never found a fault. Could this be the pump bearing failing? I never had any fault lights on the dash so the car hasn't overheated. I assume if the water pump fails I would be informed one way or another by the car, either warning me of low coolant pressure or overheating or perhaps even a direct warning of pump failure? Can anyone shed any light? Perhaps you have had the same problem? By the way, my car is a 09' plate 5.0 s/c v8 with 49,000 miles on the clock. Thanks in advance! James.
  2. Thanks Adam, still haven't found anything and despite a good number of very different driving styles, now the coolant level is just below the minimum mark it has stopped there. Scene as it only drops from the max mark down to that level and is not dropping anymore, it just seems to like being at that level?! Rather than it being a coolant leak which would continue to drain wouldn't it? I am interested in what may cause the initial loss but I think it's not of such concern that Ill get it in to jag as I really don't think it's a leak that causes it. I suspect that the coolant might expand a lot more than i thought and perhaps vent fluid out of the pressure release cap maybe? It is a strange one huh?
  3. I have a 2009 XFR and noticed when I purchased it that the coolant level was just below the minimum line of the expansion reservoir when parked on level ground and the engine was cold. Since then I topped it up as I would any car to the max line. The car then proceeds to lose somewhere a certain amount of coolant, returning the level to just below the minimum level and then the loss stops. Is this just a thing with these cars that the coolant perhaps expands quite a bit and vents out so the level in the expansion reservoir must be kept slightly lower than the on tank guage would suggest? I always thought if you lost coolant you had a leak, simple as. But then if that was the case, it would continue to empty it further than just below the min mark wouldn't it?! Any advice would be most appreciated, cheers
  4. Funny you said that. It's the most common comment, those new headlights being an improvement. I must say, I prefer the older ones like I have on my XFR. The new ones seem to emulate a lot of "evil look" car headlights on other makes of car at the moment, losing jaguars unique look. My other reservation is more practical, are the new headlights as good as the old ones? It's one thing miniaturising them but quite another doing so and getting the same or better light distribution out of them!
  5. Interesting fault this, can I ask what colour paint you have? Certain colours ie red are a pain in the butt to live with in many ways. I have a 2009 XFR (in indigo metallic) and the paint has been faultless. Is the car parked up outside like mine?
  6. Yep, only the near side mirror dips for kerbside parking. (Assuming we park facing our rear reflectors at oncoming traffic)
  7. Hmmm not sure about your fault in particular but thought I'd mention my friends recent fault with vehicle security. He has an xf too and his decided to not only unlock itself overnight, but also opened all the windows so was totally insecure and due to the rain the seats were soaked. I myself haven't had any problems with my XFR yet but am beginning to anticipate that electrical glitches are going to be these modern jaguars main faults too. Seems to ring a few bells from the jags of old huh?!
