  1. Thanks Joe; I had a garage say the same thing yesterday so all the experts who said it was the throttle sensor were talking rubbish. I propose to change both. Thanks for your great advice - as you're an electrician (?) can you advise me how to change the interior cabin main light bulb ? The two either side work OK. Cheers R
  2. Hi All, the button on the dash, when pushed, does not open the petrol cap. Is it controlled by wire or is it electric ??
  3. Hi All, when I purchased (it's getting to be an ebay Pig-in-a-Poke) my car I did not notice the electronic was not working. So, when I stopped on the motorway I locked it manually. At home I stripped the keyfob and changed the battery (I actually found the contacts missing as well as a battery from inside the fob ! Fully assembled I tried the fob and it does not work. I was hoping it might be the rubber pads need changing on the circuit board but my usual car key dealer is away on holiday. So whilst waiting I am using manual locking but then I noticed that inside the car when one pushes the lo
  4. Hi All, further to my post on Tues about cabin overheating I have contacted several garages without success but one guy intrigued me by saying thhat it could well be the matrix/heater box within the bonnet which has a seized flap ?? I don't know if this makes any sense to any of you experts but my question is...where is it located ? I have heard from SNG Barratt that it contains the evap for the a/c as well ?? Any clues/hints/tips ? Would it be easier accessing it from the underneath ?? Does the J.O.C provide a detailed diagram of what's where under the bonnet of the S-Type ? Thanks..in antic

  6. Hi Guys, have not been in the picture for a while - but now i'm back. Am still driving s-types and recently picked up a 3 L sports edition (2004) with very low mileage. it had been sitting SORN for 7 months. the owner put it through an MOT and replaced the failed parts. I collected it in London and drove it home to scotland through the night. Apart from silly niggles which I can fix I am faced with a massive problem where the vents are streaming 100% pure very heated air into the cabin. The up/down buttons work so what is causing this huge influx of hot, unbearable air ? The seller disguised h
  7. Happy Birthday richgreenjag!

  8. Firstly, a big thank you to dave and Old bear for putting me on the right track. as they said the sensor is located at the front, on the RH side looking at the car from the front, behind the lower grill. you will need a 7/8mm socket and long extension. you will need a light source to properly see this bracket. remove the black plastic bracket that also holds a hot water pipe, but also acts as a clip for the sensor. it is all located behind the grill, so unless you want to remove the complete grill, remove this clip/bracket only. this will give you access to the assembly which can be pulled thr
  9. Gents, in an earlier post i had asked if anyone knew where the external sensor was for my X-type temperature reading ? i had assumed it was the little black button up above the windscreen ? mine is u/s so i wanted to know where it was located and where to get one from. thousaands of you read the posting - none had any advice... ...yesterday i was re-reading the tech manual and was on the page for remote garage controls, whereby one can programme one's car to activate said gaarge or indeed any remote item, via the roof panel - if so fitted. this was of no concern to me but there on the dia
  10. Guys, i always thought my x type was a standard 2004 V6 but on ebay when asking for my type/model they are giving me a choice of 2001-2009 and CF1 2001-2009 ? which do i choose ? what is a CF1 ? anybody know ? i bet Steve does ! cheers in advance rich
  11. Guys, in answer to my post about X-type brakes i received an excellent tip from Pete. his suggestion was to go to bluejag.co.uk for advice. sure enough, there's plenty there for all manner of jag queries. i was interested in the brake chapter and when reading it came across a mention of a brake rewind tool and it was linked. i followed the link and came to a dead end as it wanted me to pay using Google market etc - a site i have been well warned off about. so i went on ebay and no matter what i typed in i only came across expensive sets of brake gadgetry. then i typed in FORD and came acros
  12. Thanks for the info Steve; i have been driving my jag for a whole year and none the wiser ? by the way, in less than a week i have had all my queries answered whereas 9 months into the JEC - not a peep. you guys are tops. by the way the post which said to check out 'bluejag.co.uk' was spot on. all answers are there for the reading of. Brilliant. thanks again.
  13. Guys, i have posted this query in the members' lounge but i want all readers to see it. has anybody ever fitted a sunroof to their x-type ? is there anybody reputable and reliable that could do the job ? i am based in central scotland. cheers rich
  14. Thanks for the info pete. by the way, i broke down last year in Crich and i wish you had been around. it was a nightmare. the AA refused to come to my aid (long story due to their mis-information). it was a sunday so halfords was shut. we survived until monday when i bought the tools from H's and repaired the car. i had tried all the bike shops in Matlock and asked the bikers. nothing. absolutely nothing. just sniggers from bikers happy to mock a motorist. your help is refreshing and much appreciated. by the way you say don't use a 50mm clamp but then say push the piston back..what with ? anyw
  15. Has anyone else experienced this ?? I have 2 sets of keys for my X-type. bboth have failed and am having to use the key manually. The batteries are good. Do I have to get a new key and all the hassle that goes with re-programming it ? or can you buy the internals separately ? I wonder if it has renewable little bumps like cell phone keypads ? Waiting for you Steve as you seem to be the only one who knows any answers ?? STOPPRESS: since i posted this i found a set of buttons and batteries on ebay for £9.99 then a spare casing for £9.99, so i'm quids in. a jag dealer quoted me at £150 ex-vat to
