  1. Hi Peter,

I have started collecting cars just last few years, I bought my first ever Jaguar last month XF 08 top spec.

I love it, 2 quick questions the internal lights inside car are a touch tap to turn on and off in !Removed! pit area, but when driving they come on and off repeatedly themselves  while driving. In the day that’s ok but at night it’s distracting. Any idea?

next question is the back elec window on passenger side won’t work at all from the back switch or the front switch on drivers control.

    any suggestions?

    thanks a million

Hi John, and welcome to the club

I am no expert on the functioning of car electronics but there are some members who are real experts and who will help you.

I spect most of my working life as a steelworker, and a lump hammer and a adjusting spanner were my usual methods.

You will get much assistance .

      Regards,

      Peter.

  2. Hello Peter old boy, did you miss me..? I went and had a stroke didn't I..! A lot better now and it is good to be back, but I don't half miss the Jag mind..!

      Hi Phil,

I did miss you, and wondered where you had gone --  maybe moved to an area with no wifi?

Glad you are getting better and I hope you will be soon ready to be out, seeing the world, and enjoying the fresh air.  I am sure "He" Who Is would like to see you back.  As well as that, your wife is looking after you very well.

I have just finished writing a book about Jaguar and you can find out more about it on "Transporterama" the online book store.  I will send you a copy when the printers have done their job.

Meanwhile, my best wishes, and my regards to your wife.

      Peter.

  3. Welcome to the club, Lady R.

Computers are something you cannot fix with a lump hammer.  Pity!

I also had the same on my s type, but I managed to delete it with my cheap code reader.

    Regards,

    Peter.

That's the trouble with computers.  I have been very lucky with the S Type in just having very rare problems.

      Hi Jonathan,

I am afraid not, but if you try googling, or ringing one of the parts suppliers  --  David Manners r SNG Barrett  -- I am sure you will find it.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  6. Hello peter,I'm new member,my name is Andy,I drive a 2003 jaguar s type r.and I'm looking for sum rear silencers.

    1. Old Peter

      Old Peter

      Welcome to the club, Andy.

I have not had a problem with exhaust systems with Jaguars, as I have a stainless steel system.

You could try SNG Barrett or the David `Manners Group -- they are both good Jaguar suppliers.

But most ordinary Exhaust companies will be able to source them for you.

      Regards,

      Peter.

      Hi Paul,

I am unsure about the mechanics, not getting under cars any more, but I think Denis [The Jag Man] will certainly know and even source what you need.

      You could message him.

Sorry I can't assist on this ne.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  9. Hi Peter

Managed to download a driver's handbook for my XJ8 but it's for the U.S.  and Canada. Still I don't suppose it's much different they have everything on the wrong side of the car. They have to be different :)

Once you get used to the language and the measurements the language is OK.

      Much better than Chinese.

      Hi,

If you scroll right down to the bottom of the page when you are on "Forums" you will see a list of the most active members, and then you will see a name in Red -- Jaguar Owners Club.   Just click on and ask the question.

      Regards,

      Peter.

      Hi Trevor,

Battery seems OK at the moments after  a couple of long runs.  I use Halfords quite a lot, and have a good relationship with the local auto centre.

I usually go for quality in both tyres and batteries.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  12. Hi Peter, I want to get the airbag light off. The centre rear belt works fine mechanically but the light being on is an MOT fail. Any suggestions would be appreciated

      Hi Trevor,

I have never personally come across this before, bit I would plug in my OBD2 code reader and see what that brings up.

If that is unsuccessful and produces nothing I would be inclined to do a cursory check on electrical connections and if nothing appears faulty I would suggest a visit to a good garage who could do the diagnostics and electrical check.

      Regards,

      Peter.

Pensioners option, Trevor.  It is possible that the battery is coming to the end of its life  -  5 years old in February!

      Thanks, Trevor.

My old Jag does not like the cold weather and keeps telling me that the electric parkbrake is sticking on.  With Jaguar main dealers wanting £224 + Fitting and even other parts suppliers wanting £180 for a new module  I will continue resetting it!!

      Regards,

      Peter.

  15. Hi Peter,

I'm still waiting for someone that has actually had the Bluefin remap done on their XF 2.2 to come back to me about the acceleration from standstill problem. How long does it usually take to get a response (is it usually longer than a week?).

    Yours impatiently,

    Michael

  16. Hello all I just bought my first jag an x type 2.0 2005 model 55800 miles on the clock with full service history.  I've had it 3 days and the parking sensors are playing up and I can hear a slight knocking noise at the front on certain roads so it's a call to the car dealers tomorrow, but I really like the look and the drive hopefully the dealers sort it for me ☺

    1. Old Peter

      Old Peter

      Welcome to the Club, George.

That looks like a good buy --  all the boxes ticked.

The sensors are quite an easy job and the slight knock should be sorted out properly by a good mechanic.

I think you will enjoy the X Type - I had a nice 2.5AWD model the same year a yours.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  17. Hi Peter

I have pinned some further information about diesel re-mapping under the search title of "S type remapping" but I think I have cocked up a bit. This was all to do with "death of a 3.0 litre" and my original thread generated a great deal of interest so I have attempted to expand on this subject but I feel that I may have pinned further info in the wrong place.

Could you have a look and pin it in the wright place (if possible)

    Thanks

    Martyn (actros)

      Hi Martyn,

I have had a look at your post with further information.  I think that putting a long to the website would be sufficient rather than putting the whole of the website on the Forum [which I think could possibly be against the rules]

I suggest that you delete  or reduce it and then repost under the correct heading.

Let me know what you want to do.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  19. Hi Kevan,

My son has an X Type 2.0 litre diesel  Estate on a 2006 plate. The car suddenly had a power loss which I guessed was a turbo problem, which my mechanic proved to be correct.

It tuned out to be the two pipes that run close to the EGR that had failed and which were temporarily repaired so that the engine could be started to look at an injector issue, which was rectified. The car is now back on the road and working fine, but the two repaired pipes do need replacing.

I have tried to get second hand ones, but my source has not replied.

I do not know the part numbers - the old pipes numbers are worn out, as you would expect.

Are you able to determine the part numbers and possibly supply?

    Regards,

    Peter.

Please do Kevan. I will wait, as his car is running nicely with a bit of a whistle!

      Old Peter

      Hi Dave,

I am getting off a boat in Dover on the 28th else I might have gone to Brighton this year.

I will be chatting to a few more active members soon, though and seeing what interest there might be in something in the Midlands, as we did last September at the Heritage Motor Museum.

One of the main things the Club needs is an active member in each of the main sectors of the country who will set about organising a meet --  finding a venue etc and then taking it from there.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  21. Please could you advise me in which oil is best for my 2009  X type please.

      Old Peter

      Hi Mario,

I would use Castrol Magnate, which Jaguar recommend but I would suggest you check you owners handbook to make certain.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  22. hi old peter

well i used a whole can of jlm egr cleaner over 2 sessions.

    first one 'rp' still up

next one gave it the rest of the can as directions, into the air intake , i did notice there were a few smatterings of oil coming out of the 'warm' recirculated air hose...no 'rp' light. put it back on and 'rp' took it off reved it up and no 'rp' put it back on took it out and no 'rp'

re blanking mine is a 6 on the 10 th vin digit , i thought this was the same engine as the disco sport ?

    colin

    1. Old Peter

      Old Peter

      Hi Colin,

I believe that the electric operation is the reason you cannot fully blank off the EGR valves on the s type.

I use Wynns EGR cleaner which , when the engine is hot  and running at 1200 rpm, has to be sprayed into the air intake by taking out the air filter  and getting to it that way.  You need to use the whole can in one go, and then take the car for a 10 miles drive.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  23. Hi Paul,

I had not seen that post, but you are quite right.  Recommending illegal actions is not in the best interests of club members.

We could either warn the user, or delete the post and give a reason for doing so.

Do you want to do it or should I?

    Regards,

    Peter.
