  1. I had lots of black smoke until I fitted one of these.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR-valve-restricter-plate-Jaguar-X-type-Ford-Mondeo-Transit-2-0-2-2-2-4TDCi-S-S-/110906768445?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19d28efc3d Definitely worth a try before spending bigger wads of cash.
  2. Saw this earlier today. Might T-Cut out.....?
  3. Hi Lee, and welcome to the club. I'm new to Jags too, with my own X-Type. I get 49mpg from mine, although it is a diesel!! I deliberately bought a diesel to do my 130 mile a day commute to and from work. I've done over 9,000 miles in it so far since July, and love driving it.
  4. The EML has not come on since it was fitted.
  5. Personally, I'd spend £4 on the EGR restrictor plate first. See if it makes a difference before spending bigger money.
  6. So, after a long 5 weeks, I'm reunited with my Boxster. To cut a long story short, it was cutting out intermittently at junctions etc, so I took it to a trusted specialist in Brighouse to get checked over. Turned out to be worn camshaft deviation guides, and it's an engine out job to replace them. When the engine was dropped, it was noted that the clutch would need replacing at some point in the near to medium term (it's on 87K), so I decided to get that replaced as well. I'd already asked the guys to replace the suspension arms that were causing some embarrassing squeaks and creaks, and whilst that was being done, they noticed that the rear tyres (budgets fitted by the previous owner) were split and also needed replacing. Considering they are 265/30/19"s, they aren't cheap. So, from hoping the original problem might have been a small air leak or something similar, it ended up being a wallet basher!!! Anyway, I collected it today from Brighouse, and although it cost me a small fortune to get sorted, it's almost like a new car. Light clutch, no creaking suspension, smooth idle, no worries about it dying on me at roundabouts. It's even quieter because of the better tyres on the rear. I don't think I've posted any pics of it here..... It's an early Boxster (1997), with the original 2.5 engine. Sounds fantastic. Has loads of extras and upgrades fitted by a previous owners, such as full red leather interior, red roof, clear lights front and rear, 19" Carrera S alloys and double din Pioneer touchscreen audio system. The private plate came with the car, and is probably worth a good deal of money to the right buyer. I was thinking of selling it, as it's maybe a bit cheesy for me to be honest. I'd rather have something personal to 'me', but I've shown the car at half a dozen classic car shows this summer, and it;'s amazing how much attention the plate gets. I think I'll keep it for now. I have to say, this car handles like something you wouldn't believe. There's something about how it's balanced with the mid-engined layout that is simply perfect. I love this car.
  7. I had exactly the same issues with the sooty smoke during acceleration when I bought my X-Type. Upon recommendation of my mechanic who knows these engines back to front, I fitted one of these EGR Valve resistor plates..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR-valve-restricter-plate-Jaguar-X-type-Ford-Mondeo-Transit-2-0-2-2-2-4TDCi-S-S-/110906768445?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19d28efc3d Best £4 I have spent. Now there is barely any sooty smoke, there is no loss of performance, and no engine management light on the dash either. At less than four quid it's got to be worth a try.
  8. Hi Ernest, and welcome to the club. I'm new to Jags too, having bought a diesel X-Type a couple of months ago as a daily for my commute. Love it. Now then Trevor, Ernest is in Staffs, so how is that "up T'North"??? Calling Staffs northerly is like saying where I live is north of the Arctic Circle!!
  9. Thanks Peter. I have a reputation round the doors for keeping my cars clean. I do like a shiny, shiny car.
  10. Thanks Stan. I'm pleased with the job. Up close you can see it doesn't have the full factory reflective shine, but for a rattle can job it's quite good. It's black over the chrome Bryn. The primer was the readily available Plastikote stuff. And a good job it did too. Here it is fitted...
  11. Only the second one I can remember getting in 25 years... I thought about framing it. I didn't.
  12. So how did the trip to Paris go?
  13. Hi Bryn, and welcome to the club. I'm just a bit north of you, in Saltburn-By-The-Sea.
  14. Hi Dave, and welcome to the club. I'm new to Jags with my 2005 X-Type, bought as a comfortable diesel mile muncher. So far, I can't fault it. Best of luck in your hunt
  15. Hi Robert. Are you sure you have an OBC fitted? I only have the trip mileage above the cars total mileage on the display. The button on the end of the repeater stalk only resets the trip mileage and that's all. Chris.
