  1. Apologies to everyone, looks like i should post my offer somewhere else.
  2. My 2012 3.0L diesel XFs portfolio is at the end of its lease so after three trouble free years this wonderful car is being returned and i have no more use for the Jaguar GEN 2.1 HDD Map update Europe 2015 (includes the UK) USB I bought three years ago Although it cost me just a little short of several £Million I'm happy to give it away - so if you want it and dont mind being a few years out of date let me know and i'll post it
  3. Hi Your car looks superb, love the colour and think the tints are a perfect compliment. What's the name of the company you used and what did it cost? regards
  4. Hi Peter Interesting historical interpretation. GM/Buick did supply a V8 engine to RR motors. They never supplied a chassis or built cars for them so no wonder no one would ever describe a Buick as a Rolls Royce. On the other hand the new "baby" Jag conceived under Ford ownership was based on an existing platform, namely the Mondeo (Ford CD132 platform) Land Rover used it on the Freelander. I didn't know Ford rebadged a Mondeo Ghia as a Jaguar, was that for the US market? I'm not trying to denigrate the Xtype but the fact is it was based upon a Modeo chassis and thats no bad thing at all. The problem was they didn't stop there they also raided the parts bin using much of same switch gear. Potential jag owners didn't like that so the car ended up being far from a winner you suggest, the fact is it never sold in anything like the numbers Ford needed. Ford needed to sell 50,000 a year but, although it was Jaguars most successful car, it actually sold half that. Consequently Jaguar and Land Rover where sold as a unit to TATA when finances got a bit tight in-spite of the huge sums pumped into JLR. I remember the X-type launch, it was supposed to be an affordable and economic Jag. Initially you could only buy it as a gas guzzling V6 petrol with four wheel drive. It missed the intended economy conscious market by quite some way. Enjoy the car just for its, and your, own sake. Just don't reinterpret history to justify an opinion. You say the "Halewood workers wanted to build a Jag designed by Jaguar" Do you honestly think Ford gave a stuff what the workers wanted in a small plant in NW England. Ian Callum said that the X-Type “was essentially designed in Detroit and presented as close as a fait accompli to reluctant designers and engineers at Jaguar's Whitley design centre. Herein the lesson endeth
  5. Hi Peter Couldn't agree more. I think Ford make a wonderful range of good value cars, from Escorts to Mustangs. Personally i don't think theres an ugly one in the range. The R&D money poured into JLR undoubtedly prevented the brands disappearing. I feel like i may have touched a nerve and i don't know why or which one. I never intended to so sorry if i said something to offend. Comparing a Buick to a Rolls Royce is a little odd? Maybe its the old X-type is a Mondeo with wood complaint? The Mondeo had a splendid chassis and was a logical, cost effective choice on which to base the new, at the time, baby Jag. A pity it wasn't the success they needed it to be. I enjoy my Jaaaag and if some are a touch jealous then fine, I don't get it, i'll just say more fool them, but when JLR do something i do or don't like i'll say so.
  6. Thats exactly what i have. I get low to mid 30's doing mostly short journeys but on a motorway i easily add 10 MPG to that. I purchased the 275 "S" as I'm not to fussed about MPG. Its quick and if you press the right buttons, very responsive. It handles extremely well but the large wheels make the ride a little harsh but not enough to be uncomfortable. I like its looks and appreciate its a real jag not a rebadged Ford. The only downside is the slowish response when first started, the show off air vents and gear selector is wow initially but soon wears off, it can take 5 seconds or more for the rear camera to come on, not a train smash but is a little irritating. The satnav is adequate and, if you go the official route, horrendously expensive to update. Some of the plastics are not up to Audi or Merc standard. Thats about it for cons the pros far out weigh them. Its a car that feels special and with the more powerful engine is a lot of fun.
  7. I may have a solution for you. I had the same problem where it didn't seem to matter what USB stick i used i could never play my MP3's in the Jaaag, I could if i copied them to a CD/DVD. I was doing a bit of messing with format conversion using a cheap little programme called switch audio file converter http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html by chance I told it to convert from Amazon MP3 on my PC to MP3 on a USB and bingo problem solved Hope that helps
  8. My 2012 XF's losses about a minute a month too, not a good advert for a company emphasising quality. Wish it would update itself via the (DAB) radio
  9. First one in my early 50's so it looks like the old mans car remark was pretty accurate. I think the price of entry could be partially to blame. Arthur Daily (Minder) hasn't helped the image either, mind you my Jaaaag takes so long to slide stuff about, enable the various in car entertainment facilities that it can take over five seconds for the rear view camera to come on before its ready to move. That must mean it can no longer qualify to be a bank robbers quick get away car. Hey, leave Mr Clarkson out of this, his take the p**s Jag remarks are funny and surprisingly accurate - I'm always leaving my wallet at home!

  11. I have an 2012 XFs portfolio with a very nice B&W sound system that can connect and play content from iPhone, USB, play CD/DVD's, and provides a really good DAB radio. Anyway, from day one I could never get the USB stick interface option to work, even if the same USB drive could be read by everything else in the whole world!!!!. All I would see is a list of the indexed files but from then on a very unhelpful help screen telling me the files were not accessible or something along those lines. I could copy/burn the same music tracks to CD/DVD and everything worked fine. It was driving me nuts, i tried different manufacturers drives, various formatting options, using folders or not as well as a variety of drive capacities. Nothing seemed to work and then one day i was messing about on my PC converting to and from different music formats and downloaded a product called Switch plus to my iMAC. As an after thought i tried copying an existing MP3 album to a new USB drive via this Switch app but running the convert to MP3 as this wold take the original MP3 files and apply it's own MP3 conversion. Well knock me down with a feather, it worked? What seems to happen is that the syncing or copying process used when downloading MP3 music appears to set a flag that the Jag's decoder doesn't like. I use Amazon music downloads so they're number one suspect but it could be iTunes or Sonos or even spotify doing something when these programmes search and catalogue the music found on my PC or network. So there you are folks, i know a number of people have reported problems, a simple solution is download Switch and copy all files to USB through its conversion process. The full, download only, product costs £18
  12. My XF is a 12 plate and uses the USB stick. I suspect JLR are the same as all of the manufacturers (tell me if not) in that the price charged to keep up to date is outrageous and, quite frankly, leaves a bad taste. Compare this customer rip off (theft) to to my old Garmin sat nav that is not only better and more comprehensive but cost £70 for lifetime updates. If this is JLR's idea of looking after "valued" customers? It reminds me of how the record and movie business endlessly complained, when they tried to restrict availability and charged top dollar for their product, when people stole it via internet download sites. What goes around comes around so stop alienating customers and provide a better service. End of rant! P.S. I did buy the USB update (even comes via snail mail, couldn't even download it) when i was flush with new owner pride and think the DRM prevents it being passed on, if not you are welcome to have it
  13. Dear Members I must apologise to anyone who finds my disagreement with the majority view arrogant. No offence was intended, just enjoying the debate. Phil
  14. Look forward to seeing the pictures Eddie. I'm seriously thinking of getting my XF done. How tough is it? is it easily torn? Who did you use for the work? For what its worth i disagree with most of the posts. I honestly don't know what most are on about, sure its a bit darker but even at night its really no problem, could even be better as it defuses any glare from headlights. My experience has been that as long as you don't go for a very dark tint there is no problem at all. Car manufacturers tend to offer a less dense tint and would be what I would go for.
  15. Im sure its restrictive, but not by much. I think subtle black tints look great especially with black alloys. I had an Audi A4 estate before i bought the Jaaaag and it was fine so if you like the look go ahead, enjoy yourself. My only doubt is the quality of aftermarket compared to factory fit. My son had it done and eventually the film got torn which is the only reason i haven't had it done
  16. Hi Dave I have a 2012 XF S portfolio. My update was via an outrageously expensive (twice the cost of lifetime updates on a Garmin satnav) Jaguar sourced USB stick. It took about two and a half hours to complete. The USB reader is not brilliant. I have found it very fussy, sometimes it reads and other times it indexes and list the albums and tracks but wont play. Very frustrating, I had an after market Pioneer in my previous car and that would read almost anything so the Jag is doubly frustrating. I ended up burning from the USB stick to a DVD and that works fine. To end on a positive note: What a car, quick when you want it to be and so very quiet the rest of the time. It dawned on me whilst out and about the other day - this is the only car I've owned where I can't hear the windscreen wipers! As a simple soul I'm easily impressed Regards Phil
  17. Interesting debate I don't have a problem with DAB, love the choice and being able to listen to 5 live. I don't like the low bit rate though, fine for voice but not so great for music. Trevor your a cheeky beggar (LOL) - how quaint indeed! I had to dig out a CD from the boxes and boxes of the things i cant quite bring myself to get rid of in order to conduct my experiment. I went digital years ago, I spent six months of evenings ripping all my CD collection to 320br MP3. Lossless is better but not always easy to get hold of. Haven't had a chance to play with soulseek yet, but i will, looks interesting Concerts sound good, ill bet Joan knocks out a good tune these days? I don't tell my kids about Apples poor music reproduction quality, i show them. I use a Sony phone or, my favourite a little gizmo bought years ago made by SanDisk that sounds great and has a battery life measured in weeks not hours
  18. I love your post Trevor, always amusing. Close to my experience too, I've had the same "lack of understanding" from she who must be obeyed! I'll make a confession here, I am a complete geek with anything techno. I love my music as well although not a pro like yourself. I always thought quality sound in a car was a waste until I listed to a CD on the B&W compared with a highish bit rate MP3. I'll try a few lostless tracks next. Bet you love DAB then?????? Phil
  19. Hi Trevor I know you're not a fan of all things Apple, fair enough everyman to his own. I'm no big fan either but my point is that technological progress will continue and more often than not we get useful innovation. As technology progresses it becomes more complex and develops into sub specialist categories. How many car manufacturers make their own gearboxes these days? The technology became specialist thats why companies like ZF exist. ICE is going the same way I only mention Apple because they have formed a dedicated car tech devision, as have Google. I'll bet there are loads of people who were quite happy with an AM radio and a cassette and can see no reason to change. Phil
  20. I think its the same with a lot of tech, the options are endless so a concise manual becomes so big to make it almost unusable. I have a DSLR camera that has a massive amount of options and what they do is to have an option of pressing a help button that brings up a context sensitive help screen. Car manufacturers have always been a bit behind with ICE, the sooner they pass the whole caboodle onto the likes of Apple or Google car the better off we'll all be. If they made cars hotspots as well we could be doing firmware updates from home and not have to rely on dealers to keep systems up to date to say nothing of third party apps that would be developed. All Tata would need to do is have a quality tested and approved system. I for one find the Jag ICE screen to small and sometimes illogical. A screen that docks or folds away about as big as an iPad would fit the bill. The latest Audis do this and if you look at a Tesler dash you can see where this is going
  21. Just finished updating the satnav on my 2012 xf. In case anyone else is thinking of doing the same thing there are a couple of points I can pass on: 1. The code you need is on the invoice not in the box as you may expect. Big thanks to this forum for that little snippet Don't bother with the Nokia web site called here.com (details in the box), if you want update notification get it from Jaguar 2. My update took almost three hours not the two and a half stated. No matter - I now have roads where previously only fields of nothingness existed My daily milage would have meant months taken to complete the update so I went for a drive (nobody goes for a drive anymore - do they????). It was an interesting experience when you're in no rush to get anywhere and you can't use the radio/cd/usb/ipod. Made me slow down and concentrate more and play with the MPG figures, I managed to get from 23mpg (dynamic on, sport selected and paddles used - great fun) and 60. something (very boring but i think a quite remarkable figure). I averaged 46mpg for a trip on mostly quiet A roads. Well done Lord Tata, a fine job I've only had this car for a week so still finding what I like and what I'm not so keen on. XFs Portfollio is a great place to sit, i'm amazed that a oil burner can be so refined, its amazingly quiet, its not until you get to about 35 that you notice ANY wind or road noise (how do they do that?), it goes too, next to no lag when you use the right boot unlike most of the German stuff i tried before walking into the local Jag stealer. The seats are brilliant too
  22. Thanks Trevor, ill look for your user name and have a play. The all things Apple are great fanboys really do have a sense of humour failure. I fell out with facebook too. Their fault theres no dislike button!
  23. Brian, You're a star thanks. Just found the receipt and there it is. All i need is a nice two and half hour drive. With the millage I do it'll be months to update otherwise
  24. Thanks for the offer Trevor. I'll just be careful what I copy. I'll try burning to disc and see how that goes. It would help if Jaguar indicated that the device is being scanned instead the system goes through every track on an album to tell you it can't read it and you just have to wait for it to finish reading (not) the whole thing. I have compiled a playlist (known as Phil's old man music) from Spotify via a, probably, illegal streaming app that converts to MP3. Frustrated because i can play this anywhere but not my posh car! Had to copy the playlist to my phone and stream it via bluetooth in the end. Hey ho!!! Good point about Apple, I personally detest iTunes and over zealous DRM. Although I'm typing this on a MAC but i'm one of that rare bread that think Apple are over priced and hyped. Say that on line and wait for the fan boy trolls to start!!!! cheers
