  1. Oddly when I went to Northfields with the buyer of my XJ40 my SatNav took me Miles away from it. However the buyers satnav on a Dreaded iPhone took us to the correct place.
  2. Bit soon to be Classic. If you have somewhere dry to store for 10+ years do so. Otherwise enjoy it now or sell it to someone else to enjoy. Does not sound lovingly cared for, and there are plenty around that have been
  3. My 1988 XJ40 was in the same family from new until April this year. It was originally a company car, then passed to private ownership in 1992, then when owner died 3 years ago passed to his widow. She recently needed to clear her garage as she was moving to Spain and having seen my other car (1992 Ford Sierra GLXi) in showroom condition she wanted to pass the Daimler on to somebody who would look after it as well as her husband did. It has less than 53000 miles on clock, comes with substantial service history from 1992 onwards and is in amazing condition. It is black with cream leather upholstery. I did consider trying to use it for weddings, filming etc to enable me to keep it myself but to be honest I have 2 other cars which take up my available time and money and being retired my cars have to be usable as town runabouts. The car is viewable in SE London, although I do have a cottage in Co.Durham so it is possible to make it viewable in the NE if dates work out. Ownership has passed to me, but lady owner agreed to leave registration with her until Tax runs out in August so that it avoids another owner on the V5. Have lots of photos, MOT until September and cannot see any reason why it would not pass next one easily. Family have had it advertised for £4500, but am prepared to sell for substantially less to an enthusiast owner. Hopefully I can add some images to this post, but have plenty that I can email to enquirers.
  4. My car is a 1988 Daimler XJ40 (Sovereign). Don't know if I am being thick, but on the front of the Cruise Control panel there is a button that looks like an internal light symbol. Nothing seems to happen when I press this, and it's function is not mentioned in Handbook, Haynes Manual, or anywhere else. Has anybody got any idea what this button does, or is supposed to do? Thanks Graham
  5. Hi all, I am a new owner having bought a 1988 Daimler XJ40 with 52000 a month ago. Not new to classic cars, also have a 1992 Ford Sierra with 60000 miles in showroom condition. Have had various classic cars since mid 80's. There are 2 quirks with my car that I thought I would mention in case somebody else has had them. Firstly, if I turn off the Aircon - whatever settings I use I still get hot (very hot) air through screen demisters. Can be uncomfortable unless I run aircon all the time. Secondly, the horn does not work. When I checked the relay in the box to the nearside of the radiator the relay looked quite corroded, but also it was the only relay present there and it looks as if there should be 2 or 3 others in that location. I am not really good on electrics, although pretty good on mechanics. Am just off to get a new relay to see if that will correct horn problem, but would be interested to hear if there seem to be some missing. I would also be interested to hear of any meets in SE London area, did attend the Bromley Pageant last weekend and met a couple of owners there.
  6. Hi all, recent member having acquired a 1988 Daimler XJ40 with 52000 miles a month ago. Anybody recommend an independent garage in the Blackheath Greenwich area please?
