  1. Thanks for the info..As Jaguar stopped making this headliner there are now companies who are making a copy but it is based on fibreglass and therefore not as flexible as the original . Some companies suggest that it would require taking out the front screen which I find quite daunting. And extremely expensive.. Onwards and upwards……..
  2. Can anyone recommend an installer of roof liners I have managed to source the correct liner for my K8 1998 coupe and now need it to be installed Help
  3. Am trying to find an installer of a roof liner for my XK8 1998 I have managed to source the correct liner but need an installer who knows what he is doing within 30 miles of Bangor if possible
  4. Hi Graham. Re the sloshing from the tank. The parts fitted to my XFS Portfolio by Jaguar were... Foam C2Z25196 Seal C2Z7361 Hit them hard..............
  5. Hi Graham. Yep .. I had the exact same problem with the noise from the back, usually found with the tank half full or thereabouts. The first XFS Portfolio developed this sound and after taking it to the dealer I was told that there was nothing that could be done. I complained direct to Jaguar and after lengthly correspondence they told me that the noise was caused by fuel surge and was an "acceptable operating characteristic" of this model................. After a year all of a sudden the dealer phoned me to say that Jaguar had produced a kit that could be fitted round the tank and that this would stop the noise coming from the rear Kit was fitted and noise vanished..................... Jaguar were playing games but it would seem that following my long battle with them others appeared to follow my lead and complain. At the time I wrote this all up on the Forum. Your dealer should know all about the kit. Hamilton
  6. Hi . I have just sold my XFS Portfolio after three and a half years of driving pleasure. The only problem I had was a noise at the back of the car which was caused by fuel surge. This was rectified by Jaguar and I have had trouble free motoring since then. I replaced this car with a new XFS Portfolio last week and it has a number of improvements including a new 8 speed auto gear box and body styling. Great car and would recommend it to anyone. But go for the bigger engine models...........
  7. Hi BILLYBOY This is problem that I first encountered hen driving over bumps t low speeds. After long discussions with Jaguar and my dealer , Jaguar said that this noise which they admitted was caused by fuel surge was acceptable and met Jaguars quality standards. In other words go away"....... I even took it to the Motor Manufacturers Association who were toothless. After a year my dealer phoned me to say that Jaguar had admitted a fault and had issued a kit to be fitted around the tank which would stop the noise. A kit was sent to the Dealer and duly fitted, problem solved. What really annoyed me was that Jaguar should have come clean in the first place....... Go to your dealer and get the kit fitted Hamilton
  8. A number of you may have read my mails last year when i complained about loud noises coming from the rear of my XFs Portfolio, when braking at low speeds. I complained to Jaguar over a long period and eventually they said that the noises were fuel surge and were a OPERATING CHARACTERSTIC of the XF and were acceptable to Jaguar, therefore clear off...... I contacted every known car journal and even the Motor Manufacturers Assoc. I may as well talked to the first tree. All toothless wonders. Last week i received a call from my dealer advising that Jaguar had issued a bulletin saying that they were aware of problems with fuel slap in XF cars and that a kit was available to fix the problem. Tank was taken out and kit fitted, problem solved.......Hurry round to your dealer and ask....... I am awarding Jaguar the ORDER OF THE LEAD BALLOON for useless and arrogant customer service and their total lack of customer relations Hamilton
  9. Hi Mick. Dont know whether the engine will loosen up much as most engines are now built to such fine tolerances that they do not need the old "running in period". I have a 3.0 sport portfolio which is now a year old. Great car except that i have to live with the loud "Bumps and thumps" emanating from the rear. These are caused by fuel surge when the tank is more than half full. I have been having a running battle with Jaguar over this and they say, and i quote. "these noises are are applicable to all XF cars and are an operational characteristic and are acceptable to Jaguar. I would interested in your observations.
  10. Hi Coco. Have you by now experienced the delightfull "thumps and bumps" coming from the rear of your XF. These are caused by fuel surge in the tank when more than half full. Jaguar inform me that this noise is applicable to all XF cars and is as they put "an operating characteristic" . Enjoy!!!!!
  11. Well i have tried all avenues with Jaguar and they are the most devious slippery lot that one could ever meet. They still insist that the bumps and thumps emanating from the rear (caused by fuel surge) are "an operating charactestic" and are applicable to ALL XF models, repeat ALL XF models. Strange that when first reported to Jaguar they were at a loss to give a reason suggesting that the fixing pads on the fuel tank were suspect. When i pursued the issue over a period of months, all of a sudden Abracadbra, out of the hat came the best excuse i have heard since Ford produced the model T Oh it's an operating characteristic, so go away and live with it. Something a back street under the arches dealer called Arthur Daly would have been proud of. As soon as it is financialy possible i will go back to my old marque BMW,now there really is a car and the best back up service ever
  12. Further to my earlier blog on the subject of fuel surge and things that go bump in the day and night. I have been corresponding with Jaguar and i must say what a slippery bunch they have turned out to be. They have agreed that the bumps/thumps are caused by fuel surge but refuse to correct the problem. They now say and i quote " The concern raised is an operational characteristic of your vehicle, which is only evident under specific circumstances and has no effect on the driving or safety aspects of your vehicle" No remedial action is required from Jaguar " So if anyone is interested in purchasing a Jaguar XF you will have the extra bonus of enjoying things that go bump/thump both day and night and there is nothing you can do about it but try to live with it. Also ask your dealer is this a free extra not declared in the sales brochure I have however discovered that if you run the car with less than a quarter tank the noise will be reduced. Bearing in mind the attitude taken by Jaguar Would i reccommend buying an XF? probably to my worst enemy, but to my best friends, What do you think!!!
  13. Hi Big G Interesred in your reply on the new XF. Have you experienced any thumps from the back caused i am told, by fuel surge when braking at low speeds to a virtual stop Appears to be worse when the tank isalmost full. would appreciate your comments as i am in dispute with Jaguar who say that this is "NORMAL" and "acceptable"
  14. Don't see what all the fuss is about. From my experience i would disagree. My XFs Portfolio bought in March has loud bumps and thumps emenating from the back of the car when braking at low speeds Jaguar say that it is caused by fuel surge pushing the tank forward slightly, thus causing the noise which is extremely annoying. Their current attitude is that this is a feature designed into the vehicle and in other words "clear off" and live with it. I continue to fight for my rights. So much for car of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
  15. Don't be too impatient.you might not like what you get. Beware of fuel surge in the tank which can result in bumbs and thumps when braking at low speeds. Jaguar say that this is acceptable!!!!!!!!!
  16. Thanks guys for the comments. I have just written to Jaguar( Customer relations ) thats a good one! and advised them that i do not want explanations but i want action taken to rectify the problem. They admit to the problem but do not appear to want to fix it. A this in a top of the range XFs portfolio bought in March11 Never expected this from Jaguar...............
  17. further to the fuel surge problem. You are going to love this arragance. Official letter from Jaguar received today. Quote When the fuel tank of the XF is filled to between 50 and 85 percent capacity there have been reported cases of a clunk noise enanating from the back of the car when stopping. The fuel tank on the xf is not mounted rigidly to the chassis structure as some flex is required in order to cope with the varying fuel loads. The noise being heard is caused by movement of fuel within the tank causing it to move slightly. End quote How appalling. In other words it is a built in flaw but don't worry as long as you keep the tank less than half full All future XF buyers beware as you won't find these pearls of wisdom in the glossy sales brochures. Buy a XFs top of the range luxury saloon with a built in CLUNK at the rear at no extra cost. What a sorry state of affairs that Jaguar do not care about. I am at a loss to understand their arragance
  18. Thanks Big Al will do as you suggest Nil bastardi carborundum!!!!
  19. Bought a new XFs Portfolio in March, and i am experiencing bumps and thumps at the back when braking at low speeds. Dealer identified the noise as fuel surge. I would have thought the all tanks would have baffles fitted to ovoid this problem. Jaguar have said this is normal and meets their high standards. I say that it is not normal and does not meet MY high standards. All this so far has been verbal, but i have asked Jaguar to put this in writing. Have any other XF drivers noticed this problem?
  20. There are dealers and there dealers. some look after their customers and some don't. I have had a long relationship with Jaguars and some of the cars were great and some had tremendous problems which the dealers at the time bent over backwards to rectify, including Jaguar themselves. Current car an XFs portfolio bought in March which i am battling with Jaguar to rectify a problem with fuel surge in the tank. This causes bumps and thumps when you brake at low speeds when in traffic etc. Verbally Jaguar say this is normal !!! but i say hold on this is not acceptable, at least to me it is not. I have asked them to put this in writing. Watch this space.
  21. I have owned many Jaguars going back to 1983XJ mark 2 Soverign. Icurrently own an XK8 and in March i was encouraged to buy a XF S Portfolio model and dump the BMW 530 m. However in the XF i noticed that when braking a low speeds there are bumbs and thumps coming from the back. On examination by the dealer it was agreed that this noise was coming from the tank.It would appear that the fuel was sloshing back and forth causing the thumps. I am having a real problem with Jaguar in getting them to admit to this fault. I have even asked them to write to me and confirm that a)this noise is normal and acceptable and b)this is perfectaly acceptable and conforms to Jaguar high standards Still no response, what are they hiding? Anybody else have the same problem? So much for Car of the Year. Hamilton
