  1. Oh and it went through its last MOT last June needing absolutely nothing and no advisories either!
  2. Hi Bryan No. I keep mine outside on my drive and apart from the window strip there is no corrosion whatsoever. Engine is good - mine has done 150k and still going fine. 46ish mpg on the motorway! i do have a steering rack problem which I posted on here about a while back. I havent replaced it yet because I may be replacing the Jag with a 4x4 - absolutely NOTHING against the Jag - it's about accommodating dogs and building material!
  3. Perhaps one indicator of how reliable they are might be the sheer number of them still on the road and still looking good?
  4. Hi Bryan ive had my 05 X-type 2.0d for just over a year now and the only rust on it is around one of the rear window strips, which seems common but merely cosmetic and I have been told it's easily and cheaply replaced. I haven't done it yet but intend to soon. Your post on here is the first I have heard about rust problems underneath - but when you see how many of these models are still on the road driving around maybe it was a myth?
  5. Hi All About 2 months ago te steering rack on my 2005 X-Type 2.0D started making a 'grinding' sound. (I recognised this as the Steering Rack, as the same thing happened with a Rover SD1 I used to own back in the 1980s). Sure enough, I checked the well and it was low, so I topped it up with fluid, but this was only a temporary fix and it now needs topping up every couple of days. The car is only worth around £2k so I am loathed to pay £600+ for a new rack, but clearly things can't continue as they are and I have to drive to Plymouth on 30th January - can anyone recommend a solution to me? I have not taken it to a garage yet but I fear the worst. Is the Ford Mondeo steering rack compatable? If so that may bring the price down. Grateful for any advice you can offer! Nick
  6. Hi All I am the very happy owner of a Jaguar X-type 2.0d. I selected this car deliberately having been very impressed with the model back in 2005 when selecting a company car (I opted for the Audi A6 at the time because the Jag finance was 18%apr and the Audi 2%) I never forgot the car and now I have moved jobs I sought out one and bought it. There are a couple of 'niggles' that I want to resolve; firstly one of the rear door window trims has erupted with rust (I have been told this is common with this model) - can anyone advise me how to replace it? Secondly, I want to install an integrated SatNav system. I spoke to my local Jag dealer and they advised me against it as they said it would be more expense than the car would be worth. Are there any non-Jag manufacturers that you could recommend? I don't like carrying my TomTom around and I hate the sucker on the window! Many thanks N
