  1. I've looked in the boot of my 2016 XF, and can only find one battery. Where is the second?
  2. The intercooler, or charge air cooler as it is also known as, is purely to reduce the temperature of the air / fuel mixture going into the engine. This results in a denser fuel / air mix, so increasing the power output of the engine. So long as you get a good air-tight repair, I would go down the Araldite path, and cross my fingers. The pressure in the charge air cooler, is delivered by the turbocharger, and is quite high, so maybe strengthening the repair with metalic elements would be advisable.
  3. Hi Jon, I was plagued with this issue during the last six months of the XF warranty. The agents were good enough to show me how to drain the fuel / water separator, which was a very easy job to do. (several times a week), It was obvious there was no water in the diesel. Six months down the line, with the warranty just expired, they diagnosed a faulty sensor, and replaced the filter unit, charging me £100+ Quite annoying ! In answer to your question, yes you can do it yourself.
  4. BE VERY CAREFUL! I worked at Leyland Trucks, and if a Vehicle built with Xenon headlights showed a headlight fault, then the whole light unit was removed, and returned to the manufacturers for checking. This was a health and safety issue, due to the very high voltages used by these lights.
  5. Under the red flap is another red cover. If this is lifted, you will see a metal stud. I believe this is a positive connection, for battery charging / jump starting. The negative stud is on the top of the suspension turret.
  6. If you lift the red flap, there is another red cover underneath it.

If you lift this second cap, there is a metal stud. I think this is for a positive connection to the battery, for charging and use of jump leads.

There is a negative stud on the top of the suspension turret.

This is my understanding, but if I am wrong, someone please let me know, so that I don't do any damage in later life!

  7. Hi Paul, My first XF, a 2010 model, was fitted with a detachable tow bar that was inserted horizontally. When not in use, the mount and the electrical socket were visible. On my 2016 XF, a Witter detachable is fitted, but the tow bar mounts vertically from below, and the electrical socket swings up behind the rear valence. When not in use, there is no indication that a tow bar is fitted, and the lines of the car are not spoilt. The only downside to this towbar , is that it cost £650 fitted. I hope this is of some use to you.
  8. My XF factory warranty expires in 6 months time. Has anybody any experience of the extended warranty that is available. Are XF's so reliable that it would be a waste of money, or is it worth it's weight in gold! Your experiences would be appreciated.

    Towbars

Ihave a Thule detachable tow bar, fitted by the Jaguar distributer. The ball centre to ground is approximately 365mm, and the flat on the top of the ball is level with the bumper joint. There is no problem with ground clearance.
