  1. I’m looking to buy an XE but not sure about engine choice. I’ll be doing lots of miles and mostly long motorway journeys so fuel economy is my first priority but the low end off the mark performance is second. Obviously a diesel engine XE for the economy but not so much for off the mark performance so I would like to know about any tuning options to lessen the turbo lag or if the lower powered diesel engine would be better for low end tuning since it might have a smaller turbo though I suspect the power difference is down to a factory tune.
  2. I got one too, NightSpeed666 I don’t want to do those things to you what mentioned in my reply, clearly the site isn’t very secure.
  3. What should a 3.0 V6 give m.p.g wise at 70 mph?
  4. Also a pleasant surprise is the ZF box, I know it as it's in my 5 series, great box but suffers from a leaky sump pan as I'm only too aware of, Land Rover metal sump apparently solves any future issue.
  5. Thanks fellas, really helpful, will be looking at two examples tomorrow just to get a feel for what's out there but I can see that I won't be getting in one as quick as I thought because I want either a grey or black sport with nav and bluetooth, also thanks to what I now know I've upped my budget to £4500 give and take. Didn't give the DPF any thought (though now thinking about removal and de-cat) and surprised they have belts not chains, the rust issue is a worry and I wonder if it's an inevitable feature of any S type. I used to have a 4.2 XK8 and I could literally get 33 m.p.g on a fast run so I'm thinking now my choice will be based on condition and spec rather than engine, that said I'm not sure an S type 4.2 could give that kind of economy due to body shape/aerodynamics.
  6. Hi Forum Here because I need advice seeking out an S type for my budget and needs which I've specified in the S type section. I'm coming away from an E60 5 series so providing I get the right spec I imagine I shouldn't be disappointed. I used to own a 2005 XK8 which I loved for a short time but for some strange reason I didn't become attached to it as a daily driver, no nav, no bluetooth and impractical body/doors with 20' alloys didn't help but it was surprisingly good on fuel. Anyway hope to be getting known on here soon and not for constantly asking for repair advice :-p
  7. Hi Forum, I'm in the market for an S type after coming away from an E60 5 series, I've looked around for buying advice but not found anything specific. I have about £3500 to spend give or take a few hundred quid. Must be auto and preferably with nav, a sport version would be nice. Need to get 40 m.p.g on a run but no preference as yet between diesel or petrol, though will prefer the most reliable of the two. So if you'd be able to guide me with regards to which models, years and engines to avoid and problems to look out for I'd be very grateful, thanks.
