  1. Hi, don't think it will be the gauge, but the temperature switch or the control module - given that the fans are still under control with ignition and timer then check out the temperature switch / sensor first. not sure where it is though , not had to find it on mine yet!
  2. probably, but only if you can keep it in sight!
  3. Thanks for the info and encouragement, will now look for a scanner / reader on eBay as I don't have one yet
  4. Hi All, the cruise control has stopped working - worked last week fine. X-type 2.2D Estate 2005 I have checked 3 fuses - two which mention cruise control (F26 and F51) and one for ABS F13 in engine bay, all are fine (checked with a meter. I noticed this morning that the small warning or information light in the bottom part of the dash does not illuminate during the test cycle when switching on the ignition. Have not had chance to check anything else (work...), but does anyone have any ideas? I did recently change a bulb just by the abs unit but it was working after that. Thanks for any replies. Mike
  5. Hi Brian, As Frank points out if the short is inbetween where you connect the battery and the motor then it could catch fire... So, one way would be to get to the motor wires in the door and connect to a battery as you suggest BUT put a fuse in the circuit - if you don't have an inline fuse about then a headlight bulb will do the same thing - this will limit the current (60W headlight bulb at 12v will give 5amps enough probably to drive the motor. The motor should have 3 wires (not had mine apart to see) one ground or earth and 2 supply (up and down). hope this helps, Mike
  6. Hi Brian, One trick I used (as a vehicle electrician in a past life) was to put a bulb (21w indicator) in place of the fuse, and with extended wires hang it from the roof grab handle so as you then go round moving wires under the dash / seats etc if you disconnect the short / find the problem the light goes out... Best of luck whatever you do, Mike
