  1. Has anyone found a way around the anti tamper boxes fitted from 04 onwards? Please! I have removed the fog light covers and the trim from under the bumper so I can get my arm and hand inside but the anti tamper box that the cable goes into does seem to be in the way.
  2. From 04 on they seem to have fitted anti tamper boxes over the catches so you cannot access them. I am about to admit defeat!
  3. I gave my S Type to my partner (sneaky so I can still drive it) and bought a Mercedes E class with the soft ride option and balloon tyres. Nothing like the fun of the 'S' but oh so comfortable. Being 6'2" and broad backed I always struggled with the S Type seats. The seats are about the only improvement on the XF otherwise Jag have lost the plot. The Jag dealer always loans me one when the S is in for a service but it does not appeal for the reasons you mentioned. I hope they can get it sorted. Good luck.
  4. Hi Dave Been off the board for a while. I chickened out just before going to France and bought a Merc E320 CDI. My back could not face 2500 miles around France in my Jag. I love driving the Jag but the seats just kill my back. The Jag then sat outside the house all winter and I finally took pity on it and took it for a long drive. The J fitment Pirelli P7 Cinturatos are excellent - great handling, good ride and quiet, least as quiet as it gets. Fuel economy is good too. Kwik-fit were giving 25% off so the set came to under £400. I have now given the S Type to my partner so I can still drive it when I feel the need!
  5. I would stick with the S Type for as long as you can. I just gave mine to my partner with a new set of Jag fitment Pirelli P7 Cinturatos on it which give the best ride and quietness. I have gone for an E320 Merc with the soft ride option. It is fabulous, like riding on a cloud over all road conditions and the seats are much more comfortable too.
  6. Just had a set of Pirelli Cinturato P7 245/40R18 (J) XL 97Y fitted to replace Michelin PIlot Sport 3. The (J) being for Jaguar fitment. First impressions are good. I am taking it easy for the first couple of hundred miles. There is good road feel and the car feels nice and stable on the straight and round corners. Road noise is not noticeably different. I am touring in France next month so will update how the tyres perform once they are bedded in.
  7. Thanks Dave, will let you know. Which model S Type do you have and which size of tyre? Mine are the low profile 18" alloys for the diesel sport. I do play with the idea of putting on the SE wheels with the fatter tyres if they would fit for winter tyre use. Simon
  8. I wish I could lift up the centre armrest. The handle no longer retracts the catches so the lid will not open. I used to be able to give it a good pull and it would open but not any more!
  9. Every time I take my S type 2.7 D in for a service the dealer kindly lends me an XF probably in the hope that I will "upgrade." Eons ago I drove XJ6 Series 1, 2 and 3 then in the late '80's got my first of many BMW E34s and I didn't think I would ever drive Jag again. Then the facelift S Type came out and I thought that looks nice - no chrome. I test drove one and was struck by how they had managed to capture the Jag DNA for handling and performance. Back to the plot! When I drive the XF it feels like that DNA has been lost. I am always happy to leave the XF at the dealer and get back into the S Type and think what a joy it is to drive compared to the XF. Not sure what to go for once the S Type expires as I am not convinced by the new BMW 5 Series or the XF or Mercs.
  10. I find this subject very confusing. My S Type 2.7 Diesel Sport came with Pirelli P Zero which seemed OK but were quite noisy. I then had Michelin Pilot Super Sport which were great for handling but not much quieter and also I took a hit of 10% on fuel consumption. Next I went for Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (recommended by Michelin for S Type) and these were a bit of a disappointment. (I have had Michelins on BMWs for years and they have always delivered a perfect balance of ride, handling and noise.) The PS3s now need replacing and as the Michelins have been a bit of a disappointment I asked the Jaguar agent who is recommending Pirelli Cinturato P7 Jaguar fitment. I am having these fitted tomorrow so will update on how they perform. I am a Michelin bigot so it will be interesting. They only last about 20,000 miles so not too long to wait if they are a mistake.
