  1. The Jag I've just bought only has 38,500 miles but I notice rattling so looks like they can wear relatively soon, albeit the car is 2006 so been on the car for a while. I'm going to do some more research but *think* I read that if you fit an alternator clutch then you only need to replace some type of spring and don't need to replace the lot - would save a lot of cash if this is true.
  2. Thanks for the responses. In regards to the intermittent ratting noise from the engine when idling / low rev, it appears as though this is due to the alternator belt, tensioner and crank pulley wearing and becoming loose - appears to be quite common for the engine. If the above is the case, possible solutions: 1) I can buy a ‘beefed up’ system and fit. 2) Install an alternator clutch – Info on alternator clutch is here - http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=84892 Anyone have any experience of the above? I'm thinking the second option is the best. Cheers
  3. Hi Guys, Apologies I know this is a well worn topic but just can't quite work out what I'd need. I have a 2006 x-type (2.0d s). It doesn't have many additional options (no sat nav, cruise control, parking sensors etc.). However, when picking up an oil cooler thermostat from the dealer, it was confirmed that bluetooth is pre-wired. So as the car is pre-wired for bluetooth I would need the following: Bluetooth moduleTelephone moduleIs the above correct? Also, I'm assuming I'd need the connectors for the above or are the connectors in the car and just need to plug in the modules? Also, what exactly will the bluetooth module do? I gather I could connect my mobile in order to make / receive calls. But could I connect my phone and play music from my phone through the car speakers? Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the replies everyone, it is much appreciated. To update I bought the Jag! The garage advised that the under of the car looks like new and other than normal wear all looks good. The garage did pick up a few little issues with it however. First, the steering wheel wobbles at certain speeds and noticeable tyre wobble noticeable at certain speeds. The garage advised that the drivers side tyre has a slight bulge and said that the tyre is causing the issue rather than bushes etc. I'll be getting the front 2 tyres changed soon which will HOPEFULLY solve the issue. Any recommendations on cheap / good tyres? Second, the thermostat doesn't fully open up and therefore the engine temperature takes a while to warm up and doesn't quite show in the middle of the dial. I've read there are 2 thermostats on the car but will look to replace soon and hopefully solve it - the garage advised that the engine is sucking in air as it should. Third, the engine makes a slight rumble/vibration every now and then - noticeable when idling, not when driving. The garage advised this as 'normal' for these engines and not an issue until it gets louder / more regular. Sadly, the car (06 reg) didn't come with bluetooth but think the car is pre-wired and need to buy the bluetooth module...will be looking into this soon as I like to listen to music from my phone rather than CD. Other than the above, the car is lovely and the engine seems very strong and pulls like a train! I'm enjoying the Jag experience.
  5. Hi All, I've never owned a Jag before (VAG generally) but looking to buy a diesel for my work commute and a good looking x-type is for sale. Its a 2006 2.0d S with 40k on the clock and in very good condition. It has FSH and MOT in Sept with tyres as advisory. Is it due a cambelt change or anything similar? Are there any common issues with these engines, and how do people find the mpg for them? Do people recommend these or is the 2.2d a better option? Cheers
