  1. Peter, thanks again. Once I ignored the workshop manual the job became fairly easy, as long as you remember to undo the 'air cleaner retaining bolt'. So, I did the job, all as described, and it was certainly not a waste of money. The test run revealed that the engine seems to rev much more freely, but unfortunately the amber light and restricted performance still came on and is doing so as soon as I give the accelerator a little umph. But as I said earlier, stop, switch off, restart, all back to normal. So, air flow cleaned, now on to the fuel. I will use one of the additives (I read that Archoil AP6400-D may be as good as any?) and see if that helps with the Amber light problem. Keith
  2. Well now, surprisingly, i managed to buy a can of EGR cleaner at our local parts store, and now i have it, i am not sure what to do with it! Can i just remove the air filter and spray it into the inlet? i have a workshop manual, and even removing the air filter seems to involve quite a bit of activity, and going any further into the EGRs looks like a step too far for me. Has there been any discussion on the forum which i could read, explaining what to do with the spray can? By the way, my first Jag was a Mark II 2.4 in the late 60's,followed by an XJ6 in the 70's, and then two XJS V12 in the crazy 80's.
  3. Peter, thanks, Terraclean is by the look of it only in its first days in Spain, 1000k to each/either of its two centres. So i will get hold of the Holts product and give that a try. In the fullness of time, i will post a 'Postmatch Report'. Keith
  4. Hello, i bought a 2006 2.7 diesel S-type with just on 100,000 miles 4 months ago. Superb car, but it has a !Removed! fault which is proving difficult to sort. Intermittently, usually if i accelerate fairly hard uphill, the orange light glows and 'rp' shows on the message centre. Stop and turn off ignition, restart and message and light have gone. i have had my local workshop put it on their analyser computer thingy and it shows no recorded fault. If i drive it like an old man (well i am 72!) it does not happen. The gentleman who sold it to me (1100k across the other side of Spain) says he thinks it may be the EGR causing the glitch. Any ideas as to what may be going on?
