  1. Hi all, The pipes from the transmission to the radiator on my 2006 XK have failed. Apparently there are no spares 'worldwide' as jaguar are changing their supplier at the moment. As a result the car has been off-road for 2 months. My independent local jag garage sent them to a repairer firm who reported that jaguar had invented a new lower grade of aluminium that made them unrepairable given their very tight routing from the gearbox to the radiator. They are now seeking second hand parts. Is this a common problem and does anyone know a company who are making pattern pipes , or can copy the old ones? I am in Greater London/Essex, but any source would be useful at this time. As a Newbie in the club and forums I apologise if this thread has been covered already. Thanks
  2. Hi all, I'm now on my second S-type, a 2004 2.5 auto with 45k on the clock. A few weeks ago I had the transmission sump replaced (warped & leaking) after getting 'gearbox fault' with increasing frequency - which I also had with a previous S-type (2001 with 3.0 + 70k). When it happens I reset the 'box by switching off the engine and immediately starting up again (sometimes with a rolling restart in neutral). I also get the odd thump (gearbox? diff?) when it's changing gear, and when I accelerate after slowing down with engine braking. The 'gearbox fault' went away with the new sump and fresh oil = but now it's back again! Most of my driving is commuting in town (14 miles each way), and at relatively low speeds (London!), so I'm wondering - is it my driving technique (slow acceleration and engine braking) or is there an inherent problem with these gearboxes? Any ideas? Cheers, Mark
  3. Hi, I am new to the forum and to Jag ownership. I bought my 58 reg X Type 2.2D last August and it's been fine so far. Recently I have noticed a couple of instances of transmission slip which have given me cause for concern. Last auto I had that slipped was a 1979 Granada with a leaky box so I naturally considered low ATF. However, I am given to understand that the Jag box is 'sealed for life' which means messing about in the depths of the engine with a turkey baster in order to top up the fluid. A local garage will be looking at it and they have suggested it might just need a software update (or the top up) but it could be a replacement gearbox. The car only has 115k on the clock and had 2 previous owners about whom I know nothing. It doesn't look or feel like a hard used car. Since I've had it it's been used mainly for short local runs and the slipping manifested itself on a cold morning. If anyone has any insight to offer I would be grateful.
  4. Hi all I've noticed that especially in 5th gear, when going downhill in gear with my foot off the throttle, when the road levels out and I start applying a bit of throttle again, I get a brief clunk as though there's some slack in the drivetrain. I've searched the forums but as different people might describe it differently, I've been unable to find any previous posts on the subject. It's a 2005 X-Type 2.2d with 108k and manual transmission by the way. If anyone can cast any light on this, I'd be glad to hear what it might be, whether it indicates the beginning of a serious problem, and what might cure it! Thanks in advance. Andy
  5. 2002 S S-Type suddenly getting a traction control fault signal, and stall. Help
  6. Hi Everyone. New to this site, I have a jaguar x-type 2.5 auto on a 51 plate which has been exellent and very reliable for the last two years. Recently there was a loud bleeping in the car and it went into limp home mode with the transmission to engine light (red circle with 'i' inside) sortly follwed by the orange engine light comming up on the dashboard. I have taken it to several places and replaced the alternator and battery but the light still keeps comming on and going into limp home mode, basically no one knows whats wrong? Any ideas? Many thanks. Dan
  7. Hi all, I have noticed the transmission sump gasket is weaping, so want to get it done. I've had a quick look and I reckon I could do it myself, however I don't know a few of important factors: 1) how to check/top up the oil level, what oil is supposed to be in there (guessing Castrol ATF but not sure, better safe than sorry), and where the best place to get a gasket from. Any advise would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance Josh
