    New member, old problem. Engine knocking

    Hello, I have a diesel 2.2 2006 estate,High mileage. noticed a definite knocking noise from the top of the engine when idling. Idle is approximately 800rpm. When I raise the RPM to 1000RPM knocking stops. going through the obvious problems first. Noticed I have filled the oil too high, much too high and will rectify this ASAP. Not experienced enough to consider if over filled oil would cause a knocking noise. First diesel car. Any advice gratefully received
