Can anyone tell me whether the automatic transmission unit for the 2.5L and the 3.0L are identical? Thanks

I live on an island in Malysia. Jag support/diagnostics not available. There are one or two skilled mechanics who could do the work necessary if they knew what they had to do. Problem is worst at first start-up in the day. At very low speed when accelerating there is a metallic clank/clunk. Once it has warmed up, and providing acceleration is gentle, there is no major problem (although there may be some slippage). I am in the UK at the moment, and could take back with me any small component (e.g. speed sensor) and can have it fitted there as a first attempt to solve problem. Otherwise I will have to ship out a replacement transmission from the UK. It would have to be a used unit. If that’s necessary, any advice as regards reliable sources. Thanks.

Hi Andy, Sorry for slow reply, but I've been wondering how to reply. There has been no real problem with the indicators, and so I am doubtful that the problem can be the indicator switch. Perhaps you could let me know why you think the indicator switch is the source of the problem. Thanks and regards, Joe

I live in Malaysia, and over the last 2-3 weeks have the following frustrating electrical problems with my 2003 2.5l S-type: Initially, wipers came on (intermittently) with switch in off position. However, wipers worked OK on other settings. Then, wipers, headlights, front fog lights, front indicators, and interior lights all went off one night so had to abandon car. Next day, lights etc were back on again, but wipers still came on with switch in off position. Sometimes wipers won’t work at all on any setting. Today, wipers on intermittently with switch in off position, wipers not working on 2nd and 3rd positions, but working on rapid wipe position. Lights OK at the moment, but boot (trunk) won’t open with push button (opens with key). I have checked seating of fuses, relays, etc. Very grateful for any ideas/help.
