Restricted performance

I don't know if I am in the correct section for this topic but it is electronic.

Can anyone Help?

I have a Jaguar XF sports 2012 3Lt D which I have had for several year with no trouble. However, while towing my caravan this year, it goes into Restricted performance. I had it checked out and had a new Activator fitted after cleaning the old one which made no difference. Everything was Ok with the new part and the performance was noticeable better however after one and a half hour towing it went into restricted performance again. I cleared it by switch the engine off waiting for a while and turning the engine on but this only cleared it for ten minutes or so. While driving solo the restricted performance does not appear and the car runs perfectly well with no faults appearing. It has been on various diagnostic checks which shows everything is ok and brings no codes up even Jaguar can’t give an answer except change everything, (very expensive).

Has anyone had this experience or suggestions they could give to me to rectify this matter?

I’ve had this appear twice on my 2011 2.2 facelift XF. First time was a faulty injector which showed up immediately when connected to the diagnostic unit. Second time the fault was intermittent and nothing showed up on the diagnostics. As a trial and error process seemed inevitable, my mechanic suggested I start with the fuel filter which is a cheap option. I wasn’t so sure as it had already been replaced 6 months prior to this but decided to give it ago. Lo and behold no more restricted performance. Been fine ever since and that was approximately 8 months ago. Not saying this May be your issue but it’s a cheap option and certainly won’t do any harm to try..?

Thanks Pet I will give it a go fortunately the diagnostic did shoe a code number and it was in the area of turbo and I had an actuator replaced which did improve the performance considerably and on the first journey towing everything went well but on the return it happened again.still round the same area and its going in for another procedure to hopefully rectify the situation. fortunately I have a good garage who do not charge me for labour only parts as they said customer satisfaction is worth mor that money and I have been a customer of theirs for years. However I will tell them about the fuel filter and see what they say. Sorry its been so long answering your reply to me but I have been away.  Regards.
