Hi Everyone,

I replaced the front part of my exhaust yesterday and noticed there are two rubber hoses going to the dpf. These both have a braided outer sleeve which I assume is some kind of heat protection. One of the hoses had split and come detached from the DPF. The hose that had come off was hard and quite stiff. When I squeezed it white/grey powder came out of the end. As I squeezed further along the hose more powder came out, so obviously this is blocking the hose. 聽These hoses go up towards the back of the engine.聽

My MOT is due next month and my engine management light is on. It鈥檚 been on for some time as I need a new EGR valve too. It鈥檚 currently blocked off. I have a bluetooth code reader but it wont talk to the car so I have no idea whether or not the DPF is giving any faults.聽

So my question is, what are these two hoses for and if one has been off for a long time would it have damaged my DPF? Does diesel go down these to regenerate the DPF? I can鈥檛 find any definitive answers online.

Thanks

Richard聽

I would think that they go to the differential pressure sensor Richard.聽 My Range Rover has the same set up and the soot level is calculated by measuring the DP across the DPF to decide when to regenerate . The ash is usually what's left of the soot after a regen but I'm surprised that there's enough of it to block the pipes. Maybe it's due for a clean out. There are usually local businesses that deal in this sort of thing. Maybe worth making some enquiries.聽 If the pipe is leading to the DP sensor it would certainly bring the light up.

Good luck.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply. I was a bit wrong about diesel going down these聽pipes聽馃槀聽but we live and 聽learn. It makes sense what you鈥檙e saying as without this how would the ecu know when to regenerate. I鈥檒l get some new hose. I鈥檒l probably just buy standard rubber hose and 聽slide it inside the outer shield. I鈥檝e ordered a bluetooth ODBII connector so I鈥檒l hopefully be able to read the codes to get a better idea of what going on.聽

Thanks again.聽
