This morning i had a warning light come on about my Oil level.I was stopped at the time so switched the engine off, waited 10mins then checked my dipstick which was showing Oil to the top mark.Would i be correct in thinking it's an Oil level sensor problem or would it be another issue....i don't have a code reader to check it out.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Scott, if you have been able to confirm your Oil level via an actual dipstick, and assured yourself that the level is correct i.e. not skewed by other engine fluids having leaked into the sump after a Low Oil Level situation caused another issue, then you can be relatively assured it is most likely a level sensor issue.

To be assured, check the other fluid levels such as coolant to confirm they are normal.

Did you have cause to check the dipstick prior to the low level dashboard warning? If so, was it correct?

Hi Jim..i checked all fluids on sunday morning like i do every sunday and everything was fine.I've put the car into my local garage tonight and they seem to think it's a sensor too but won't know until tomorrow when they get it onto a code reader.I've got my fingers and toes crossed thats all it is but my luck is terrible so i'm expecting the worst but hoping for the best.

Turns out it has issues that is beyond my local garage...they've told me it'll need to go to a JLR specialist.

So after a few phone calls this morning i've got a JLR mechanic fixing the car next friday. He knew exactly what was wrong with it when i told him the code and told me it's a very common fault on the 2.0d Igneium engine and that it could have been worse if i hadn't caught the problem now.£600 including vat and thats parts supplied too which i thought wasn't bad...Pentland JLR wanted £178+ vat just for the part alone.I'll updated this thread when the work has been done.
