Thinking about buying an XF. Advice please.

Featured Replies

Good evening all. I am looking at a 2017 XF diesel with 66000 miles. Are there any specific issues I should be aware of? I made the mistake of buying a Ford Kuga Powershift with 58000 miles, and after another 5000 miles had to buy a replacement gearbox. I learned after the event from the Kuga owners club that it's a common recurring failure. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, what engine though? If it's 2.0d then i would stay away as in 7/10 cases its ticking bomb due to combination of chain guides bad design and waaay too long 2 year service intervals. They fixed it from 2019 onwards. If there's proof that it had oil changes every 5-8k miles then it should be fine.

If it's 3.0d then there's nothing to worry about, much better engines.

Gearboxes are bullet proof on jags.

Nothing specific in 2017 xf to look out for other than usual checks when you buying car of this age.

Thanks, BiK3rz. It is a 2.0d. Appreciate your advice. Think I'll give this one a swerve.

No problem, don't get me wrong, you can find many of these engines without any issues, but I think more often than not, they are problematic. until 2019 when they finally fixed the issues
