Electrical issues or are they ?

Featured Replies

Good evening  2007 xk x150  weird problem, firstly my battery died . I replaced it then ABS fault DSC unavailable and engine lights came on, I had the codes cleared,  drove 100 yards they came back on. Changed the ABS sensors on the front. Cleared codes same issue came up after driving a mile DSC light started flashing car went into limp mode , brakes seemed to come on, and grinding noise heard, I stopped as soon as I could smoke was by then coming from rear N/S brakes which then went on fire. I managed to put the flames out but car is now stranded. Has anyone else experienced similar please ? Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Brian, sounds quite serious, but I suspect they may well be electrical related - the battery on a Modern XK is a central part of its nervous system.

You say your battery "died", is the replacement new and fully charged? The faults you experienced with ABS, DSC, etc, are all symptomatic of a poor battery, unable to provide a stable voltage to the sensitive electronics.

It may be the case with brakes that the electronic parking brake (EPB) has been stuck on due to a poor signal associated with the battery condition, you are likely going to need access to a full Jaguar or Autologic diagnostic equipment to fully check and reset the brain of the car.

Good luck and please report back any progress.

Good afternoon and thank you for your help with this.

I did not use the car for a couple of weeks and when i tried to the battery was completely dead , it was only a two year old battery as well. And would not recharge   Yes the battery is brand new and fully charged, it is all very weird. When I did replace the battery the first issue was the Bluetooth function stopped working then ABS, DSC etc.

Hi Brian, again the listing of the faults all point to a battery voltage issue - as I said, extremely sensitive to voltage fluctuations. As I am sure you are aware, in a Modern XK, the battery's ability to start the car is no longer the best indicator of a good battery in situ.

In my own case, even if not using the car for a few days, I get it hooked up to the battery conditioner, which in my case is preferred the Ring Automotive Smart Charger type RSC 612, but others prefer the Ctek option.

Unfortunately you need to get your car to a suitable garage, one that has access to the Autologic or Jaguar Diagnostic equipment as I suspect one, or more, of the electronic modules has corrupted as a consequence of the dead battery and will need to be reset. Obviously with a seized brake calliper, the car would need to be recovered either on a flatbed, or by a raised rear tow dolly.

Before that, try a "Hard Reset" of the car / battery. Disconnect both leads from the battery terminals and then touch them together - capacitance discharge. Wait for around 10 minutes and then reattach the leads to the battery and see what the car tells you. If it comes alive, try and take a 10 mile drive without adjusting anything - even window settings - as this allows the car to relearn its modes.

Good luck.

Good afternoon and thank you again, for your help with this.

I will give it a go and keep my fingers crossed.

Failing that I will try and find a garage as you say.

I will keep you posted.

Brian.
