The restricted performance warning came up on the trip computer message centre along with the left hand side amber warning light on my 3 litre S type, also the engine malfunction icon is displayed, but I have no apparent loss of performance. The restricted performance warning has not come up since on subsequent engine start ups, but the engine malfunction icon still remains illuminated. Has anyone any idea what the problem might be? Thanks Geoff.

Hi Geoff, I have the same problem on my S-Type but the amber light does go off and then periodically returns. I have been told that driving it over 2000 revs for at least 30 minutes will clear the problem as it apears to be a problem with the catalysor. As there appears to be no drop off in performance and if the car runs Ok as mine does it seems it's nothing to worry about. I had a diagnostic done by a Jaguar dealer but they found nothing wrong - still it's makes me feel uncomfortable driving with this amber light on as I suppose it does you.

Hi Glyn, the problem I had on my S-Type turned out to be a faulty knock sensor located on the top of the engine in the vee of the cylinder head, not very easy to get at, however I got it fixed by the local independant garage that I use at a cost of £246-15. If you are interested I also posted this on the Jaguar Owners Club Members Only forum the last entry being on 17th July and the full story is there if you wish to view it. Best of luck with your S-Type I hope the cure is less expensive than mine was, please keep me informed. Best wishes Geoff.

Hi Glyn, I have just looked at your profile and see that your S-Type is a 2.7 diesel where as mine is a 3.0 petrol so I don't think the knock sensor scenario will apply to your car, as I said before I hope you can get it fixed more cheaply than I could. Good luck mate, best wishes Geoff.
