'Missfiring'

Featured Replies

My X Type 2.0d 2007 is 'missfiring' when trying to accelerate gently, from any speed. There is also smoke from the ex. when accelerating. Are these faults probably connected, like a 'dribbling' injector or what? MPG is also affected. It has only done 53,000 miles. Being on the wrong side of 77, I can't really afford main line garages. Can anyone throw light on these problems. I have only had the car for 3 months.

Regards, Medlocks

My 2.0v6 petrol recently suffered with this my specialist replaced to coil packs and all my plugs as water had got into the plugs and damaged them and shorted my coil packs out. Dont know if the same would apply to a diesel but the bill was still reasonable from a specialist had a service as well alll for under 400 quid

Hi, I had similar symptoms with my 2.2d recently and it had only done 30,000 miles.

It was found to be the ECU unit and my local garage replace it for a price within £200

Hope this is of use and hopefully reduce the time at the garage if they have a place to start.

Regards Martin

Whoops! Must be Friday.......not ECU, its the EGR valve that was the problem.....replace it, don't clean it!

Regards Martin
